    JOB OVERVIEW/SUMMARY

    As a Scientist I in Product Development you will be responsible for all R&D project work related to delivering and maintaining a robust pipeline of new items, in-market product improvements, sustainability enhancements, new raw material and product technology innovations, and margin enhancements for the Burt's Bees business. You will be required to support the Product Development function with strong technical leadership and knowledge of raw materials and formula characteristics with an in-depth understanding of related manufacturing processes. Project work will include all aspects of product design from early identification of benchmarks, formula development, identification of key raw materials, claims development, systems set-up for new products, and assistance through full production as well as assisting with Regulatory and Supply issues as needed. You will act as the Product lead working as an active member of cross-functional teams to implement projects, in close partnership with Packaging Development, Process Development, Global Stewardship, Strategic Sourcing, and Product Supply. You will also represent Burt's Bees R&D externally through interactions with vendors, Burt's Bees manufacturing, and external manufacturers to ensure products and formulations meet quality standards, are efficiently produced and easily scaled up for manufacturing. You will help create a compelling workplace based on technical acumen, collaboration, and a commitment to loving the lab.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS, YOU WILL:

    • Gain a thorough understanding of both Burt's Bees internal and external manufacturing facilities, specifically related to Product Development systems and capabilities.
    • Utilize technical skills and troubleshooting knowledge to successfully design, test and implement new raw materials and develop formulas while delivering consumer delight through product usage experience.
    • Implement product controls and devise test methods to ensure product quality is in compliance with finished product specifications.
    • Create appropriate systems information and documentation.
    • Independently represent R&D Product Development within project teams.
    • Work in an environment that values collaboration, continuous training, and improvement both personally and professionally.
    • Communicate effectively within multi-functional teams and build strong partnerships with other functions.
  • Qualifications

    KEY SKILLS, ABILITIES ,EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRED

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or B.S. in related technical field and M.S. in Chemistry
    • Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to effectively interface with cross-functional groups at all levels
    • Ability to work independently and implement multiple projects in a timely manner

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • SPC analysis
    • Experience with Product development standards, test methods and best practices
