    Job Description

    Summary

    Under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineering Intern assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of methods, operation sequence, and processes in the manufacture and fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies. The person acting in this capacity learns about many of the activities outlined in the Essential Functions section. Their role provides hands-on experience applying fundamental EE coursework and fundamentals to real projects with mentoring from experienced engineers in a manufacturing environment. The goal is to learn how basic electrical components function and are integrated in a manufacturing product flow and analysis techniques can screen for quality issues.

    Essential Functions

    • Develop a Lean Six Sigma Part Quantity Process Route to feed into a Value Stream Mapping Project for kitting of parts for a manufacturing process flow
    • Learn about X-ray fluorescence (XRF) - a fast, non-destructive analytical technique used to identify and measure the elemental composition of materials and screen for manufacturing quality
    • Determine Cycle Time for material screening
    • Learn the application space of basic analog electronic components (op-amps, diodes, transistors, etc. at an introductory level), their requirements for a space program, and participate in the verification of these parts for use in space and directed energy product manufacturing
    • Evaluating quality control processes and making recommendations for improvement
    • Identifying and differentiating between manufacturing, design, and component issues, and coordinating resolution of the issues with the appropriate individual, group, or organization
    • Performing root/cause analysis and identifying and monitoring corrective actions to resolve production and product issues
    • All other relevant duties as assigned

    Required Education and Experience

    • Enrolled in a Bachelor of Science degree in manufacturing, industrial, systems, mechanical, or electrical engineering, or in a related field.
    • U.S. citizen able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Security Clearance

The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
