    Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services (IIS) Training and Logistics Services Technical Services (T&LS) is looking for a systems engineer with a background in Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) development and authoring utilizing Extensible Markup Language (XML) to support technical manual development. Work to be performed in their El Segundo and/or Fullerton facilities.

    T&LS provides the technical manuals and training required by customers to effectively and affordably operate and maintain their equipment. Our large staff of qualified author/instructors consists of both degreed engineers and service trained technicians. Working together with the design community, they provide practical, cost effective, and high quality products and services covering a wide range of equipment and all maintenance levels.

    In support of technical manual development and as an important member of a customer driven team, you must be able to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings for use in the development of maintenance and repair procedures utilizing designated test equipment and tools. You will be expected to analyze and devolve requirements, define IETM component architecture, interface with source data communities, prepare structured documentation aligned with customer provided standards, participate in weekly customer reviews, validations and verifications, and be willing to travel (10%) in compliance with OSHA and Raytheon safety policies and procedures.

    Additionally, you must be well versed in XML language and the Document Type Definition (DTD) correlating to MIL-STD-40051-2C. You must be able to incorporate technical manual modules into a technical manual skeleton and manipulate the skeleton to fulfill the requirements of MIL-STD-40051-2C and an associated DTD supplied by the Government.

    You must be able to maintain knowledge of the specification and instruction of MIL-STD-40051-2C and must be capable of delegating and scheduling tasks, training writers, and assisting writers with technical issues. You must have knowledge of PuTTy, including the usage of scripts and UNIX commands. You must be able to understand and develop basic UNIX shell scripts as well as run scripts used to process SGML and XML for a MIL-STD-40051-2C conversion project.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Experience developing, manipulating, and running basic UNIX scripts
    • Familiarity with computer programming and software development processes
    • Ability to analyze IETM requirements and design implementation plans that will lead to successful requirements verification
    • Minimum 3 years experience working with structured markup languages including SGML and XML
    • Experience developing IETMs in compliance with military specifications
    • Experience coding XML and designing test procedures for validating XML constructs
    • Quick learner, self learner
    • Strong team player--able to work well in a team environment
    • Excellent communications and customer interface skills
    • Strong English communication skills, and, in particular, strong writing skills
    • Technical background--ability to write about technical systems and read schematics
    • Strong computer skills
    • Experience designing and developing technical manuals
    • Experience with PuTTy or equivalent software
    • Ability to focus on detail and produce high quality documentation
    • Security clearance - U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

    DESIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Minimum 3 years experience developing technical manuals in accordance with military specifications and standards
    • Experience developing in accordance with MIL-STD-40051-2C
    • Strong background in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word
    • Computer programming background
    • Network management background

    REQUIRED EDUCATION (INCLUDING MAJOR):

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent combination of experience and training obtained in the last 18 months or by Summer 2018.
