BATTLEFIELD RADAR CO-OP (SYSTEMS ENGINEERING)
The Mission Systems and Sensors (MSS) Team in Raytheon IDS is seeking candidates for a 2018 Systems Engineering co-op opportunity in Fullerton, CA. MSS provides critical decision-making solutions for complex missions through the integration of sensors, operations centers, and telecommunications networks for air operations and battlefield systems.
The co-op position is an opportunity for students from technical disciplines to gain work experience in the professional field by contributing design and development of tactical defense systems at Raytheon. The ideal candidate has a declared electrical engineering major, possesses strong analytical skills, and is interested in a career in the design of large scale electromechanical systems with defense applications. Relevant experience in algorithm design, requirements development, and software/hardware integration and configuration management would also be beneficial.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Participants would join a team of system engineers to become acclimated with Raytheon Engineering practices and processes. The candidate would develop and exercise engineering skills through technical training, and by performing Systems Engineering tasks on a product line of ground-based radar systems.
Specific job responsibilities will be designed to match the candidate’s technical interest and academic background, but will likely include contributions to an Integrated Product Team of engineers to generate system and software requirements, development of designs to implement radar architecture, coordination of design with peers, and test the radar system for compliance to requirements. He or she will participate in systems engineering process and will work on programs that require a security clearance.
All assignments will focus on developing the candidate’s competency in system requirements definition, integration and test.
WHAT DOES A SYSTEMS ENGINEER DO?
A Systems Engineer uses engineering and math skills to define the architecture of the system (the “pieces” and how they interact), the performance and functional requirements of the system (what the system must be capable of doing and how well), the subsystem design and requirements (what components are needed and how they must perform), and the integration of the components into the overall system. At Raytheon, Systems Engineers contribute to programs throughout the entire product development lifecycle, from inception to completion, and are applying model based systems engineering and architecture methods on many of today's most advanced-technology systems.
In support of design and requirements generation, the Systems Engineers also analyze the system’s operational capabilities through modeling and simulation tools. Systems Engineers are also involved in integration, string testing, fielding and operational tests.
