The Raytheon Missile Systems Electronics Technology Department provides engineering design, integration and cradle-to grave support to Missiles, Smart Munitions, Projectiles, Kinetic Kill Vehicles, and Directed Energy Weapons as well as ground combat weapon systems.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Optical design engineer with optical design and analysis skills, interest and/or experience in optical systems design, optical tolerancing, optical fabrication, and testing. Assignments may include optical design, optical analysis, stray light analysis, optical tolerancing, prototype development with optical component suppliers, optical testing, troubleshooting EO systems, documenting & improving design & development processes and providing solutions to a variety of EO problems of moderate scope and complexity. Candidate will work under supervision of a senior Optical Engineer while exercising responsibility in meeting the technical, financial and schedule objectives of assigned tasks.

U.S. CITIZENSHIP STATUS IS REQUIRED.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• U.S. Citizenship is required
• Classes in optical engineering and/or physics
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interest in optical design & analysis
• Strong desire to learn and contribute in a team based environment

DESIRED SKILLS:

• Active optical design experience
• Proficient in CODE V and/or Zemax
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Optical Performance Testing
• Knowledge and experience in optical design and analysis, infrared systems, optical tolerancing, fabrication, and testing
• Class projects, professional internships, or academic research demonstrating the ability to apply technical course work or computer software skills

REQUIRED EDUCATION (INCLUDING MAJOR):

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optics, Physics, or Systems Engineering or related discipline from an ABET Accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
