    Position Description

Position is to provide engineering support for planning, coordinating and evaluating all weapon integration software-related tasks for integration and certification of weapons systems designated for the F-35A/B/C air system. Experience performing Software Engineering and Aircraft-Weapons Integration required.

    Position Duties/Responsibilities

    DUTIES/Deliverables:

    • Oversight of aircraft/weapon integration software-related activities for compliance with F-35 requirements documents and best software engineering practices.
    • Support Weapon Integrators: Monitor, evaluate and provide technical recommendations to ensure software development activities follow standardized processes and that mechanization of weapon functionality implemented in aircraft software supports warfighter requirements.
    • Safety Critical Function: Develop and maintain a list of safety critical functions for weapon and aircraft interface software. Ensure for initial certification of weapons that the safety critical functions have been thoroughly analyzed, ground and flight-tested and artifacts have been delivered to the F-35 JPO by the OEM and weapon suppliers. For revisions of aircraft and/or weapon software, ensure safety critical functions regression testing has been performed and artifacts delivered by the OEM and weapon suppliers.
    • Interface Control Documentation: Maintain an understanding of the ICDs between the aircraft and weapon and participate in Joint Interface Control Document meetings in the development of new ICDs and/or changes in the ICDs.
    • Configuration Management/Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs): Maintain an awareness of the aircraft and weapon software versions/nomenclature that is certified. When Change Requests (CR)/ECPs are proposed, review all the artifacts provided by the OEM/weapon suppliers to ensure the CR/ECP package being evaluated for Joint Change Request Board (JCRB)/Joint Configuration Control Board (JCCB) approval and provide a recommendation to the empowered F-35 JPO Weapon Certification Subject Matter Experts for USAF/USN.
    • Deficiency Reports (DRs): Maintain an awareness of the current DRs documented against the aircraft/weapon interface. If aircraft/weapon software is planned to be tested with known outstanding deficiencies, communicate the mitigations, limitations, Warnings, Cautions, Notes associated with the deficiencies to the test team and document them in the developmental test flight clearance. For operational test and fleet release, communicate the mitigations to the deficiencies in the Interim Flight Clearances/Military Flight Releases and/or the known issues in Flight Series Data employment modules. Once the deficiencies have been resolved, remove the mitigations in the flight clearance/FSD.
    • Maintain Software Sustainment Funding for all weapons: Coordinate and synchronize aircraft integration activities with Weapon Program Offices’ roadmaps. Track all weapon software updates via spreadsheets and provide recommendations for testing required for updated certifications with new weapon software.
    • Review all pertinent aircraft software and weapon software certification documentation and provide engineering assessments and recommendations for certification.
    • Review all Developmental Test (DT) flight clearances in the area of Stores Function (aircraft weapons-related software functional assessment) and provide recommendation to Government on concurrence or rejection of DT clearances.
    • Review fleet flight clearances and flight clearance-related documentation as requested in the area of Stores Function (e.g. SWIRM/AVSRM/FSD) and provide changes/recommendations to the JPO Weapon Certification Subject Matter Experts for USAF/USN.
    • Represent the F-35 Weapons IPT at technical reviews and systems engineering meetings as required.
    • Draft, review and comment on weapons integration documentation, publications and correspondence.
    • Provide inputs to flight test planning and ensure inputs align with TAEs/SMEs data requirements. Monitor, review and comment on all applicable weapons integration test planning documentation and test results.
