  • Responsibilities

    Performs a variety of tasks associated with campus operations and events that include: material and equipment delivery; setup and takedown of furniture, furnishings, and equipment; custodial support; waste and recycling; motor pool; campus mail and freight; storage and inventory of materials, furniture, and other college property.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Moves furniture and office equipment. Prepares, sets up, and takes down rooms and facilities for meetings, athletic events, community events, graduation, and others.
    • Fills in as temporary custodian as needed.
    • Picks up garbage across campus and delivers to a central location.
    • Collects recyclables from buildings to central location. Recycles and repurposes as appropriate.
    • Cleans, refuels, and stages motor pool vehicles.
    • Provides daily campus mail service.
    • Receives shipments and freight. Uses heavy equipment as needed.
    • Inventories and tracks the location of furniture, tables and chairs about campus for event set up.
    • Inventories and track location of major furnishings, furniture, and equipment within but not limited to the maintenance department.
    • Assists other trades under the maintenance umbrella as needed (Construction, Carpentry, HVAC, Electrical, Mechanic Shop, Audio/Visual Technology, Grounds keeping).
    • Performs preventive maintenance checks of various systems.
    • Other duties as assigned

    UNIQUE FUNCTIONS

    • Responds to wide variety of work order requests and unique campus needs. Must seek guidance as needed and effectively communicate with supervisors, colleagues, and customers to complete wide-ranging, custom tasks.

    SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

    • Must be able to understand and follow directions.
    • Must be able to work independently and be accountable within area of responsibilities using good sense and sound judgment.
    • Must possess effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills an apply skills to provide customer relation and service skills in working with the public and CSI employees.
    • Must have adequate physical strength and mobility to perform the tasks required of this job position.

    TECHNICAL EXPERTISE REQUIRED

    • Must be able to operate or learn to operate equipment such as forklifts and aerial work platforms. Safety certification classes for this equipment will be provided to employees by the college.
    • Must be able to drive light duty pickup trucks and tow utility trailers.

    EDUCATION / TRAINING REQUIRED

    • High school degree or equivalent required.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS

    • Five eight-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week.
    • May be required to work early morning shifts or late-night shifts
    • Must be able to work for several hours standing
    • Indoors and outdoors. All weather conditions. Varying conditions including hot, cold, noisy, and dirty.

    • Requires some physical effort, i.e. some standing and walking, frequent light lifting (5-10 lbs); and manual dexterity in the operation of office equipment; extended periods of time at a keyboard; perceptual demands for color, sound, form, and depth; occasional and, at times, hours outside the normal University schedule
