Job Description
The Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) is an off-campus educational initiative of the University of Notre Dame that champions South Bend by promoting innovation and excellence. As a force multiplier, the Robinson Center leverages community and Notre Dame partners to provide educational opportunities for all ages, enhance existing systems, and build individual and regional capacity. AmeriCorps members serving at RCLC share in the center’s commitment to hospitality, education, partnership, civic engagement, and sustainability.
AmeriCorps’ mission is to bring Americans together by strengthening communities. RCLC programs in which AmeriCorps members are placed include: preschool classrooms, after school tutoring and enrichment programs, Shakespeare and drama integration, senior outreach, La Casa de Amistad partnership and the Moreau College Initiative at the Westville Correctional Facility.
The Moreau College Initiative (MCI) is a college-in-prison project sponsored by Holy Cross College and the University of Notre Dame (Moreau College Initiative) MCI
offers credit-bearing college courses that lead to AA and BA degrees at Westville Correctional Facility. MCI expects to have 75 incarcerated college students this fall in a designated dorm at Westville Correctional Facility. MCI is also a member of the Bard Prison Initiative's Consortium for the Liberal Arts in Prison (Bard Prison Initiative)
AmeriCorps members serving in the MCI program serve at the Westfield Correctional Facility (5501 S 1100 W, Westville, IN 46391). This AmeriCorps member will embody the liberal arts college in the minds of the students. As noted below, the position also entails a number of regular logistical responsibilities that must be performed reliably, consistently, and transparently. This is essential to running a smoothly functioning college program inside such a facility; yet it is also crucial to creating a campus that is distinct in temper and mechanics from the surrounding institution.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Advance the mission of MCI by ensuring that all conduct is consistent with the mission, and that duties are implemented to achieve goals and strengthen this unique partnership.
Provide tutoring and academic support to MCI students during regular Study Hall hours on site.
Help coordinate logistics with the administration of the Westville Correctional Facility in a manner that is reliable, consistent, and transparent.
Provide research and library support for MCI students
Act as an academic tutor for students (the position may also include teaching opportunities.
Oversee special projects as requested, and work with RCLC program staff to coordinate special events.
Attend weekly AmeriCorps meetings at the RCLC.

Living Allowance: The amount of the living allowance depends on the AmeriCorps member status and is divided into bi-monthly payments.
Education Award: After successfully completing the AmeriCorps term of service and enrolling in the National Service Trust, members are eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. Awards can be used to repay qualified student loans, pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs, or saved for up to 7 years for future educational use.

Pay Range: Living stipend ranges from $4,000-$21,000 depending on AmeriCorps member status (abbreviated, minimum, quarter, half or full time status). Education Awards valued from $416-$7,395 depending on successful completion of term of service.
