  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    The Copy Editor is responsible for reading, copy editing and proofreading advertising material for publication on behalf of the agency and its clients. This includes (but is not limited to) print materials such as FSIs, ads, coupons and displays, as well as digital media such as web banners, brand pages, landing pages and social media posts.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Primary responsibilities include:

    • Reading, copy editing and proofreading all jobs for brand preferences and guidelines, typos and other egregious errors, grammar and consistency, as well as general accuracy.
    • Checking advertising material for accuracy of trademarks, copyrights and legal information specific to each client and brand.
      • Tracking updates (from the client and their legal team) for trademarks, copyrights and legal information and making sure they get implemented in new creative.
    • Providing editorial support to account team for client presentations, decks and printer’s proofs.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s Degree (in English, Journalism, Communications or other relevant field preferred)
    • Exemplary completion of the Arc copy editing/proofreading examination as administered and evaluated by the Managing Copy Editor
    • Strict attention to detail
    • Zero tolerance for spelling errors
    • Fluent in grammatical rules and commonly accepted usage
    • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a close and collaborative team
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines with unexpected rush requests
    • Communicate effectively with team members and troubleshoot editorially as needed
    • Understanding of online editing tools in Adobe Acrobat Pro and Smartsheets OR the adaptability to be trained on such in-house applications as needed

    PREFERRED

     

    • General understanding of Associated Press Stylebook and Chicago Manual of Style (Note: most clients have their own preferred style, so respecting that trumps a strict adherence to any reference manual.)
