The Assistant Principal for Student Services (APSS) is appointed by the Office of Catholic Education upon the recommendation of the schools president who consults with the schools principal. The Assistant Principal for Student Services (APSS) is directly responsible to the principal and assists in the daily operation of the school's student services programs which include student discipline (discipleship), guidance, health, counseling services, and overall climate of the school. The APSS is responsible along with other administrators for the development and supervision of teachers. Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Duties) * Collaborate with the principal in integrating the Catholic faith and culture into the schools entire program. * Provides personal and visible leadership to all members of the learning community and seeks continuous school improvement in a student-centric environment. * Work collaboratively with all members of the administration. * Holds ex-officio membership on boards and committees such as administrative meetings, academic board, discipline board, student activities advisory board, awards committees and liturgy committees. * Collaborate with faculty, parents, and students to provide a school climate conducive to learning. * Design and develop a continually relevant discipline policy, which ensures the dignity of the student in all matters. * Communicate the discipline policy to all members of the learning community. * Communicate all discipline matters of a serious nature to the Office of Catholic Education in a timely fashion and as well, complete all required documents. * Follow all mandated reporting procedures as designated by the Office of Child and Youth Protection and ensure colleagues at the school who are handling any student issues follow all policies. * Maintain all records for student attendance, tardiness, and discipline following procedures as determined by the student information system. * Collaborate with faculty in developing techniques for positive classroom management and behavior modification. * Establish dialogue with parents, student, and faculty relative to student discipline problems, attendance problems, and guidance services. * Supervise student conduct at school-related events and throughout the school day. * Develop plans for student movement throughout the building to ensure effective, strategic movement. * Assign and coordinate effective policies for students in cafeteria and auditorium. * Plan, practice, and supervise safe school policies including all drills, evacuations, etc. and keep records of all plans and practices. * Complete student safety reports for the Office of Catholic Education and other entities as requested. * Coordinate daily transportation schedules including as applicable Septa passes. * Supervise the work of the health office and coordinate students leaving school for health reasons. * Process early dismissal requests from parents. * Coordinate with government and other agencies performing guidance services in the school. * Implement a Student Assistance Team and coordinate the teams efforts. * Implement Behavior Modification Programs and coordinate the teams efforts. * Demonstrate instructional leadership by understanding academic standards, unit planning and by participating in the evaluation of teachers. * Prepare the budget for the Student Service Office in collaboration with the president and principal. * Assume other duties as delegated by the principal. Preferred Qualifications and Experience * Must possess a Masters Degree from an accredited college/university with a concentration in educational administration. * A valid Secondary Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate is desired. * Two years of successful teaching experience. * Strong oral and written communication skills. * Ability to work productively and positively with staff, parents and community. * Strong motivational skills. * Ability to promote an environment, which fosters high expectations for students, staff and self. * Ability to monitor student progress and promote student achievement for all students. * Successful participation in staff and curriculum development activities.
