    Muskegon Community College is a center for lifelong learning that helps people attain their educational goals by offering programs that respond to individual, community, and global needs. MCC is an associate degree-granting institution of higher education and an applied technology leader for high-tech, hands-on training.

    With nearly a 100-year history of academic excellence, MCC is a public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. With robust student success support, free tutoring, 18 athletic teams, events, clubs, and activities, MCC has an annual, full-time equated student enrollment of approximately 2,300 and an unduplicated headcount of 5,100.

    Most recently, Muskegon Community College outranked all other colleges in Michigan for the rate of students who received federal financial aid and then transferred to continue their education at a four-year institution. The college’s transfer-out rate was the highest in Michigan, 7 percentage points above the state average, and outpaced the average transfer rate across the nation. MCC is nationally recognized for its liberal arts and occupational programs.

    The College has an annual operating budget (general fund) of $44 million and employs about 210 regular full and part-time staff and many adjunct faculty and student assistants. The College also offers 56 Associate degree programs and 29 certificate programs.

    The main campus is located on a 111-acre campus in Muskegon which includes the Hendrik Meijer Library & Information Technology Center, Bartels-Rode Gymnasium, Frauenthal Foundation Fine Arts Center (including the Overbrook Theater and Art Gallery), Stevenson Center for Higher Education, the Science Center, the Health and Wellness Center, and the Art & Music Center.

    Muskegon Community College also operates the Sturrus Technology Center and Fab Lab in downtown Muskegon and extension centers in Ottawa and Newaygo Counties.

    General Description:

    The Assistant Athletic Director is a leadership position that connects athletic administration, compliance oversight, facility management, and student-athlete support. This role demands a highly motivated, solution-oriented team player capable of managing health, fitness, and recreation facility operations while ensuring full compliance with institutional, federal, state, and athletic association regulations. Key responsibilities include athletic event administration, student development, intramurals, academic progress reporting, game management and strategic initiatives that enhance the visibility and success of the athletics program. The role also manages the golf course and Health & Wellness Center (HWC), supervises student workers, and leads social media and website content for athletics.

    This individual must deliver a superior level of interactive service, promote health and wellness, and communicate effectively with a diverse campus and community population. A flexible schedule is required to support evening and weekend events as the athletics event administrator.

    Status: Full-Time 40 hours/52 weeks

    Salary Range: Up to $60,000 depending on experience

    Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    1. Bachelor’s degree in business, Sports Management or related field.

    2. Two years of successful supervisory experience.

    3. Possess excellent organizational and managerial skills, planning and time management skills; strong analytical and decision-making skills; problem solving skills; excellent follow-through and attention to detail.

    4. Experience developing, planning and managing a fluid budget based on strategic initiatives.

    5. Certified in CPR and First Aid. Current knowledge of industry standards related to fitness facilities.

    6. Demonstrated ability to deliver effective and professional written and oral communications, information or training to both internal and external audiences.

    7. Demonstrated use of tact, judgement and discretion, ability to maintain confidentiality, and ability to relate to people of all ages, races, and social-economic backgrounds.

    Essential Function:

    1. Manage day-to-day operations of the Health and Wellness Center and serve as Golf Course Manager, ensuring maintenance, scheduling, programming, and customer service.

    2. Supervise building operations, including facility access, cleanliness, safety protocols, equipment maintenance, and appearance.

    3. Serve as the Academic Coordinator for student-athletes, tracking eligibility, assisting with class scheduling, and promoting graduation success.

    4. Lead the planning and execution of all athletic events including scheduling, staffing, and game-day operations.

    5. Serve as Game Management Coordinator, being present while ensuring safe and efficient operations during all home events.

    6. Oversee all intramural programs, including planning, scheduling, marketing, and supervision.

    7. Coordinate and promote the use of facilities for internal and external events, managing logistics and maintaining facility standards.

    8. Oversee sports information duties, including maintaining statistics, records, archives, and website content. Manage social media accounts to highlight departmental achievements and events.

    9. Recruit, train, and manage student workers, ensuring performance and leadership development.

    10. Maintain day-to-day operations including but not limited to opening and preparation, enforcement of policies, procedures and standards, budgeting, locker rooms, building appearances and facility maintenance, and administration.

    11. Manage the preparation and administer the annual budget including but not limited to inventories/supplies as well as meeting all goals and strategic objectives.

    12. Interview, hire and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance and set goals; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems to maintain a highly trained and motivated staff. Administer all personnel management policies and procedures as appropriate.

    13. Encourage health and well-being through collaborative programming with Student Life, Human Resources, Community Outreach, the Counseling Center, and other departments.

    14. Oversee the use, care, operation, maintenance, and record-keeping of all fitness equipment.

    15. Develop, maintain, and present monthly usage, participation, and financial information.

    16. Provide service excellence through courteous, enthusiastic, informed, accessible and professional engagement; training staff in the same.

    17. Coordinate scheduling of building facilities for all open hours, classes, games, special events and the calendar of events.

    18. Provide support for athletic staff and events including coaches as needed.

    19. Manage and coordinate all intramurals including but not limited to scheduling, staffing, marketing and planning.

    20. Plan, develop, set goals, prioritize, schedule daily activities and clearly communicate performance output expectations of student staff.

    21. Responsible for setting up, hiring staff, supervision of facility and safety of athletes and spectators for all athletic events.

    22. Coordinate and promote use of facilities to outside groups and manage all aspects of events in the facilities.

    23. Sports information coordinator. Responsible for all statistics, records, archives for Jayhawk Athletics.
