    2018-2019 Aspiring Assistant Principal Program (INTERNAL ONLY) Atlanta Public Schools -Administrative - Position - Assistant Principal - All Levels Job Number -Start Date Open Date -Closing Date -INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY (CURRENT APS EMPLOYEES) Program Overview: Atlanta Public Schools Aspiring Assistant Principal Program is designed for internal teacher leaders who wish to pursue a position as assistant principal in Atlanta Public Schools within the next 1-2 years. Members of the Aspiring Assistant Principal Program will participate in hands-on-learning experiences that will enable them to utilize Atlanta Public Schools Definition of Leadership Excellence in order to achieve student success, engage families and the community, develop other leaders, and manage systems, operations and resources within Atlanta Public Schools. The 70/20/10 leadership development model will be used to increase participants understanding of APS Definition of Leadership Excellence as they matriculate through the program during the 2018-2019 school year. Key Responsibilities While in the Program: -Attend monthly sessions in order to become familiar with Definition of Leadership Excellence and how they will assist in increasing student achievement in Atlanta Public Schools -Create a school improvement project to solve a current problem that your school or organization faces, and work with other staff members on solutions aligned to Definition of Leadership Excellence -Maintain a portfolio inclusive of artifacts demonstrating experiences utilizing Definition of Leadership Excellence -Engage in group discussions around school improvement and leadership development including face-to-face and electronic communications -Self-assess against Definition of Leadership Excellence -Engage in feedback sessions with peers, mentors and other leaders in the district -Complete stretch role assignments that will improve experiences applying Definition of Leadership Excellence -Receive support from Director of Leadership Development, Principals, Principal Mentors, Associate Superintendents, Deputy Superintendent, District Partners and other leaders -Research best practices and strategies for school improvement and leadership development -Shadow school and district leaders throughout the 2018-2019 school year -Apply content learned during monthly sessions to current work at schools and offices -Utilize the 70/20/10 leadership development model to increase understanding of definitions -Prepare to interview for the district assistant principal pool for the 2019-2020 school year INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY (CURRENT APS EMPLOYEES) Requirements Minimum Qualifications: -Master's degree or higher -Three (3) years of successful work experience in K-12 education as a teacher, instructional coach, counselor or similar role -Georgia professional certification at Level 5 or higher in a teaching or service field and educational leadership or be eligible to receive a leadership certificate from Georgia Professional Standards Commission -Must complete Gallup PrincipalInsight assessment (will receive link via email after applying) -Must upload resume and written recommendation from current principal in attachments section of online application Assistant Principal Readiness Criteria: In addition to minimum qualifications, candidates applying to the aspiring assistant principal program should meet the readiness criteria for assistant principal positions.
