    Job Description

    Summary of Position: This position’s primary leadership for Augsburg’s food justice and food access initiatives. This includes oversight of Campus Kitchen and Campus Cupboard programs and developing the leadership of the students who run them. The work of this position, addressing food insecurity by increasing access to healthy affordable food on campus and in surrounding communities. This position is also responsible for , supporting curricular and co-curricular opportunities related to food justice, and collaborating on place-based food initiatives with community partners.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES
    General oversight of Augsburg food initiatives

    • Lead campus-wide strategic planning and conversation around food issues
    • Manage annual budget, partner with Institutional Advancement for donor fundraising.
    • Develop case statements and write grants for food initiatives as opportunities arise.
    • Supervise Food Justice Program Associate, and full-time AmeriCorps VISTA member, and graduate student interns who work on food initiatives.
    • Other duties as apparent or assigned. ​​​​​​​

    ** Campus Kitchen program**

    • Supervise, train, and mentor 8-12 paid Augsburg student employees and interns each semester.
    • Create and implement leadership development opportunities, teach program management and community building skills.
    • Recruit volunteers and oversee program logistics including supplies, transportation, food safety, student and community partner schedules, etc.
    • Support program operations, cover staff shifts as necessary.
    • Manage existing community partner relationships and actively pursue other connections and opportunities with local food networks.
    • Obtain food safety certification and ensure that all staff and volunteers are up to date on food safety rules.

    _ Place-based food justice work_

    • Participate in the Cedar-Riverside Neighborhood Food Initiative by collaborating with faculty, staff, students, and community partners in projects that advance food justice in our neighborhoods.

    ** Student success food access initiatives**

    • Lead efforts to expand students’ access to healthy affordable food via the Campus Cupboard student food shelf and Augsburg’s SNAP benefits referral program.
    • Manage co-curricular and community learning opportunities in the Food Lab, in partnership with academic departments
    • Represent Augsburg in state-wide and city-wide college food access working groups.
    • Support other Sabo Center civic and community engagement programs.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Assess, evaluate, and adapt Campus Kitchen and other Sabo programs in collaboration with staff, students, and community partners
    • Train, present, and lead workshops on Sabo Center work and related institutional commitments (e.g., civic and community engagement skills)
    • Represent the Sabo Center and food initiatives at SOAR, in classroom presentations, and other events that educate students.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    • Sedentary work for long periods of time.
    • Regular computer and phone use.
    • Frequent driving within the metro area.
    • Requires valid MN driver’s license required) to travel locally within the Twin Cities area.
    • Ability to lift/carry up to 25/lbs.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in food access work, community engagement, relationship-building, and program coordination required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Attention to detail, accurate and precise record keeping and communication.
