SKILL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the ability to use a multi-line phone system and interact with visitors and callers in a courteous and professional manner. Incumbent must have knowledge of general office procedures and practices and office equipment, including computers. This position requires excellent telephone and oral communication skills. Incumbent must have accuracy in checking, posting, and counting, and have excellent alphabetizing and numerical order skills. Ability to communicate in Spanish with callers and visitors would be helpful, but is not required. Incumbent must have the ability to interact with other employees and the general public and learn and retain names, locations, and telephone numbers. Incumbent handles large volumes of calls and visitors accurately and pleasantly. Employees in this position must be able to read, write, and speak/communicate in English in order to receive and to provide work-related information in a timely manner to other employees, supervisors, principals, school personnel, volunteers and where appropriate, visitors and students. JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY: This position serves as the Human Resources Office receptionist and performs a variety of clerical duties in the maintenance of files and records, in the computation of salaries, and in other aspects of Human Resources. Employees in this position regularly communicate with Human Resources staff, other department staff, employees, and the public. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Serves as receptionist and answer a variety of questions or direct inquiries elsewhere. Maintain a variety of files, reports, and data concerning present, past, or potential employees. Compute salaries as needed to respond to employee questions and generate employment verification letters. Open and distribute incoming mail. Produce agenda materials. Process and maintain new personnel files. Process changes to employee records. OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Services are often performed in a crowded and congested area where frequent interruptions are encountered by telephone, the general public, students and/or parents. Position requires sitting, standing, lifting, and may require travel to off-site records storage. Computer use is required, and prolonged use may result in repetitive hand motion.
