    Major and Planned Giving Manager, Montana Public Radio - KUFM


    The Major and Planned Giving Manager establishes and maintains a personal portfolio of up to 40 individual donors who are among MTPR’s most significant supporters with a focus on annual asks of $10,000 or more, and establishes and maintains a planned giving program in conjunction with partners at the University of Montana Foundation.

    This position would be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive major gifts program for MTPR. This position averages approximately 5-10 visits or high-contacts each month. High contacts are defined as 15 minutes or longer phone calls, proposals, sitting next to donors at events, meeting in person with current and prospective donors, as well as volunteers. Funding will be sought and secured for all MTPR content areas (news, arts, music, digital, podcasts and children’s programs) of MTPR. Under the direction of the Director of Development, this position will support MTPR’s General Manager, and other development team staff in cultivation and solicitation initiatives for unrestricted funding as well as projects. This position will be a hybrid of in office, work from home and work from the road when visiting donors across Montana.

    This position is also responsible for planned and deferred gift activity, including qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of up to 80 donors and prospects. This position will execute planned giving activity, presentations and develop strategy. This position will serve as a resource for all MTPR development staff in preparation of cultivation and solicitation strategies for all planned giving, including any and all cross over with major gifts. This position works closely with partners at the University of Montana Foundation, through which all planned gifts to MTPR are made.

    Specifically, this position identifies, qualifies, cultivates and solicits major donor prospects in assigned portfolio of up to 40 individuals, alone, and in consultation with other key staff when necessary and appropriate. For assigned portfolio prospects, prioritizes prospects, researches/commissions research on their interests and capacity, and identifies individualized strategy for solicitation and follow up. Develops written strategies in consultation with the Director for Development; coordinates nature of contacts that assigned prospects receive; facilitates relationships between potential and current donors and MTPR’s senior staff and others; reviews prospect strategies regularly for refinement and interprets MTPR’s annual and project needs for donors and prospects.

    Develops and implements an annual business plan and budget for inclusion in the overall development plan to ensure successful cultivation and solicitation of MTPR’s most significant donors. Together with Director of Development, identifies a budget goal based on portfolio members’ past giving and behavior utilizing information such as last gift, largest gift, gifts to special projects and new solicitation vehicles.

    In consultation with the Director of Development, creates and supervises implementation of small targeted events for assigned prospects and donors. This may include a series of "behind the scenes" events or other format that will motivate, engage and educate prospects and donors.

    Manage one or two major gift appeals for production projects at a time as assigned. Specifically, maintain content (Exec. Summary, sample proposals, audio, etc.); maintain prospect and funding report; and, "be the expert" for fellow development staff.

    Serve as official planned giving representative for MTPR donors, communicating organizational details and working with donors on establishing meaningful legacy gifts to MTPR. Work with other campus departments (including UM legal, UM Foundation and more) to ensure successful completion of estate plans to benefit MTPR.

    Position Details


    • Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
    • Salary for this position is $50,000- $55,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Set up and operate metal fabrication equipment (eg: brake presses, fiber laser, coil presses, panel bender). 
    • Use overhead hoist and any other required material handling equipment to maneuver dies and materials
    • Use inspection/measurement equipment and review prints to ensure work is meeting or exceeding quality standards
    • Enter Work Order data required for labor reporting into the computer system
    • Work in a manner that emphasizes the safety of self and others. Follows all safety policies and guidelines
