Role: Basketball Camp-Activity Leader

Salary: $19-$24 / hour (Room & Board Eligible)

Summary:
The Basketball Camp Activity Leader plans, implements, and supervises all aspects of the Basketball Camp , providing a safe, engaging, and welcoming basketball experience for students. In this role, you will lead and actively engage in a safe, organized, meaningful, enriching, and fun basketball program for groups of international summer students, primarily age d 13-17 . This role includes coordinating, teaching, practicing, and assessing Basketball Camp participants regarding common basketball skills , games, an d activities. The program will focus on skills for basketball, athletics, and life, such as teamwork, healthy competition, being active and healthy, and having fun . Basketball staff will also participate as Activity Leaders in other non-basketball activities and events on campus. This is a seasonal , full-time summer position, and full room and board are available on campus. Th e role star ts approximately June 10, 2024 .
Professional Qualifications and Qualities:
Training and demonstrated knowledge of principles and techniques of basketball in order to coach you nger players in the sport of basketball.
Understand Basketball-specific rules, principles, moves, and strategies to Basketball Camp participants in line with the USA Basketball: Youth Basketball guidelines
Minimum 1 year of competitive Basketball experience at or above the Varsity (High School) level.
Desire and ability to supervise, lead, and positively manage EF international students in a cooperative, team-oriented camp atmosphere.
Knowledge and skills in basketball with the ability to teach these skills and create a positive learning environment.
S trong communication and leadership skills and has excellent character, integrity, adaptability, patience, responsibility, enthusiasm, organization, and humor.
Possess the visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to program activity.
Demonstrated commitment and/or willingness to serv e a multi-cultural population.
Ability and desire to work outside of the typical schedule to support the basketball camp schedule for irregular events/activities.
CPR/AED Certified at the time of hire, or the ability to become certified immediately thereafter.
Be able to lead and fully participate in the sport.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Have the right to live and work in the country of employment
Complete fluency in English.
Key Responsibilities:
Ability to design and implement age-appropriate, safe, and enriching basketball activities utilizing coaching and facilitation skills with groups of 10-40 students.
Plan, organize, and supervise all Basketball Camp practices, activities, and events.
Creates, oversees, teaches, and assesses a valuable, engaging, and meaningful educational experience to Basketball Camp participants.
Serve as a role model to Basketball Camp students.
Conduct initial and end-of-program inventories, assuring appropriate supplies for activity and storage of the supplies.
Conduct and ensure regular cleaning and checks of spaces and equipment are performed.
Participate in and assist in running camp and program events and initiatives.
Accompany students on field trips and off-campus excursions, including to UCLA Pauley Pavilion.
Communicate regularly with the direct supervisor regarding concerns, updates, challenges, and successes.
Set an excellent example for students and coworkers in all areas, including but not limited to health and safety, accountability, fairness, organization, punctuality, following the rules, and sportsmanship.
Assist with student arrivals and departures.
Deliver an initial welcome briefing to students.
Monitor daily attendance and keep up-to-date records and paperwork.
Attend all leader meetings.
Ensure students follow the EF behavior code and inform management immediately if there are any issues or problems.
Address any problems and emergencies should they arise.
Perform other duties as assigned by management staff.
