    PATH's Programs and Innovation (P&I) division is an integrated global platform that provides technology, market, analytical, digital and data expertise to advance PATH's work. P&I teams include the Center of Digital and Data Excellence (CoDE), Diagnostics, Epidemic Preparedness and Response, Product, Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases, Market Advancement, and Primary Health Care.

    The Programs & Innovation (P&I) division is seeking an intern in Washington, D.C or remote on the East Coast. The work may be virtual or in-person depending upon the public health and PATH guidelines regarding the pandemic.

    Through this internship, the selected candidate will provide communications and advocacy support to facilitate knowledge exchange across P&I programs and help elevate and position PATH as a go-to partner in global health. This includes:

    1. Strengthening internal communications at PATH to enhance alignment and learning exchange across programs and divisions.
    2. Enhancing external communication opportunities to position PATH as a thought leader, increase and diversify funding and partnership opportunities, and scale our impact.

    Learning Objectives and Goals

    The intern will:

    • gain hands-on experience related to global health communications and advocacy efforts.

    • deepen their knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of public health, health communications, and policy translation.

    • build ability to multi-task and work professionally with various colleagues and mentors within PATH, developing project management and organizational skills.

    Proposed Activities

    The intern will work closely with the Senior P&I Communications and Advocacy Officer to undertake the following activities:

    • develop content for digital communications including social media.

    • create and support publication of compelling communications and advocacy materials and visual content, including fact sheets, web content and articles/blogs, policy briefs, and case studies.

    • work with P&I program teams to identify successes, synthesize information, and translate into visually and narratively compelling communications materials for external audiences.

    • support communications materials for external events, panels, and webinars.

    • support project coordination and management.

    The intern will build skills in health communications, stakeholder engagement, and project management, and will receive hands-on experience supporting complex, multi-country projects within a non-profit global health organization. The intern will also gain a deep understanding of how to work with various teams in a culturally and programmatically diverse environment.

    Required Experience

    • Current student enrolled in an accredited university (ideally graduate program).

    • Superb English writing and editing skills and a demonstrated capacity to synthesize and translate technical health and development issues into compelling persuasive writing.

    • Strong graphic design skills including document layout and producing social media graphics and PowerPoint slides.

    • Experience creating and designing communications and advocacy products that are accessible to target audiences and using various digital platforms including social media and web content.

    • Excellent organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail.

    • Ability to adapt within a fast-paced environment.

    • International work or study experience a plus.

    The intern will have regular check-ins with the Senior P&I Communications & Advocacy Officer to evaluate satisfactory progress toward achieving deliverables. Deliverables will be reviewed for quality and timeliness. The intern will be expected to demonstrate flexibility within a fast-paced work environment and adapt to shifts in deliverable prioritization.
