What You'll Do/Need Position Summary: The Building Maintenance Intern position provides the opportunity for a student within the Mechanical trades field of study to gain practical knowledge and experience. This internship will provide the ability under supervision, to review Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, and to make elementary repairs and perform routine diagnostic and preventative maintenance tasks, relative to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, integration and architectural services. Position Responsibilities: Successfully complete Bedrock required Red Vector safety training Exposed to and performs maintenance and repair work on the interior and exterior of properties including lighting, heating/air conditioning (HVAC), ventilation, plumbing, minor electrical, integration, etc. Assist with building inspections for further Preventative Maintenance needs. Ensure the security of inventory such as tools, supplies, equipment, etc. assigned to them. Assist with replenishing supplies used during tasks, in a timely and efficient manner, minimizing waste and ensuring that equipment is prepared and operational. Completes assigned work in a timely manner and within specifications, as tracked on an assigned maintenance intern checklist. Record and report completed repairs and items that require further attention. Maintains regular attendance, is consistently on time, and observes prescribed work, break and meal periods in compliance with standards. Maintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include compliance with the dress code. Performs any other duties as requested by Team Leader. Position Requirements Currently studying and/or upcoming completion of studies within a mechanical trade related field. Physical Requirements Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. Mobility and flexibility and ability to climb ladders. Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time. Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, and/or to move from one work site to another. Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward. Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to-position. Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to read and write in English. Must be able to engage in manual and mechanical snow removal. Vision: Visual acuity adequate to read small print and to drive a motor vehicle is required. Hearing: The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented in English in person and on the phone is required. Speaking: The ability to talk to others in English in person and on the phone and effectively convey information is required. Environment This position works inside and outside. The inside is generally heated in the winter and air-conditioned in the summer. The employee may be exposed to outside elements present at the time work is being performed including, but not limited to, exposure to heat, extreme cold, rain, snowfall, wind and humidity. The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions: No effective protection from weather. The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation. The worker frequently is in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, man holes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia. The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways. The employee is exposed to various chemicals including paint, turpentine and cleaning chemicals. The employee is required to operate power equipment including snow blower, power landscaping equipment, and various tools.
