Description of Duties: This is a full-time position located at the Clinical Campus of New England College of Optometry The Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician works under the supervision of licensed optometrists and reports to the Dean of Academic Affairs and the Clinic Director. Responsibilities Include: Clinical Campus duties: Provide Technical support, problem resolution, and End User Training for ophthalmic equipment and technology in both the Clinical Training Facility (CTC) and our Center for Eye Care (CEC) Serve as the key liaison to faculty, students and staff in the use and support of equipment, including technology and AV, in the CTF and in the clinic Serve as the key liaison to vendors in the delivery, maintenance and repair of equipment in the CTC and the clinic (and maintain updated documentation for same) Manage the day to day operations and safety of the CTF (including coordinating any necessary activities with IT, Facilities, the Clinic and Academic Affairs) Order/stock supplies for the CTF Ensure the ophthalmic instruments and lanes/other equipment in the CTF are in good working order are regularly and properly cleaned Serve as the key point person for all issues relating to the CTF Ensure the ophthalmic instruments are in proper working order, the examination rooms are clean, with adequate supplies and disposables for the clinic and the clinical training facility rooms to provide seamless patient care and student training Assist with the training of optometry residents and students as directed by faculty Ensures compliance with universal precautions in accordance with patient care and OSHA regulations Complies with all clinic and College policies Performs other duties as directed to meet the clinic and pre-clinic need Assists providers in the care of patients in the following capacities: Perform a comprehensive patient and family ophthalmic and medical history including the patients chief complaint, social history, review of systems, and other pertinent history Perform a variety of testing as directed by the attending optometrist, including but not limited to visual acuity, color vision, intraocular pressure, screening visual fields, pupil sensorimotor exam, lensometry, etc Perform specialized diagnostic testing as directed by the attending optometrist, including ophthalmic (fundus) photography, advanced diagnostic imaging (OCT, corneal topography) and threshold visual fields Assist the optician(s) with frame selection Required Qualifications: Exemplary organizational skills Exercises discretion and good judgment with confidential information Detail oriented with strong interpersonal and patient management skills Excellent communication skills with multiple internal and external constituents including students, staff, faculty and patients Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents and be effective in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment Ability to manage time efficiently, set priorities and provide exemplary patient care Willingness to be flexible with schedule and work outside normal working hours Desired experience 2 3 years experience in patient care, preferably eye care Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, respect and sensitivity to patients and co-workers Self-motivated and self-directed team player with a strong work ethic Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality Communicate effectively with patients and co-workers and adhere to HIPAA guidelines To apply, submit a cover letter and resume for consideration.
