    Boston Public Schools -Research and Evaluation Intern (Office of Turnaround & Transformation) (00058972-SY1819) -Job Posting -Job Details -Title -Research and Evaluation Intern (Office of Turnaround & Transformation) -Posting ID -00058972-SY1819 -Description -Boston Public Schools seeks a Research and Evaluation Intern (Office of Turnaround & Transformation) REPORTS TO:Program Managers/Director, Office of Turnaround and Transformation OVERVIEW: The Office of Turnaround & Transformation (OTT) is responsible for supporting the progress and sustainability of schools in BPS that have been designated Underperforming by the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (these are often known as Turnaround schools). Currently, there are 8 schools In Need of Broad and Comprehensive Support in BPS, and 28 that In Need of Targeted and Focused Support. OTT takes a dual approach to supporting these schools: first, by facilitating high-leverage supports and activities directly with school teams; and by working with district offices and leaders to create an ecosystem of programs, policies, and practices that make accelerated improvement possible and sustainable. The OTT team works with schools before they receive a designation of Underperforming, during a nearly year-long planning process after they have received a designation, and over the course of multiple years as schools implement a Turnaround Plan. Currently, the team is expanding the scope of engagement to ensure that schools that successfully graduate from Underperforming status can sustain their progress. OTT works closely with the BPS Learning Networks, Office of Engagement, Office of Human Capital, Office of Data and Accountability, Instructional Superintendents, and others to ensure that schools receive coherent resources, guidance, and other forms of support. The intern will specifically focus on research and evaluation efforts related to the departments direct support of turnaround and transformation schools. The ideal candidate has a mindset of continuous improvement, a commitment to educational equity, a background in education, and the ability to manipulate and analyze data. RESPONSIBILITIES: -Research evidence-based strategies for increasing school improvement efforts. Research may focus on areas related to the retention of high-quality leaders and teachers in our highest-needs schools, and innovative turnaround strategies being implemented by high-performing districts across the country. -Based on a comprehensive literature review, make departemental and policy recommendations to improve the districts school improvement efforts. -Support the quantitative and qualitative evaluation of interventions implemented by the district to support the performance an achievement of students in our highest-needs schools. -Investigate high priority research questions of particular interest to the district and the Turnaround office. QUALIFICATIONS-REQUIRED: -Bachelors Degree -Strong background in research and evaluation -Ability to integrate data analysis into strategy development -Strong oral and written communication skills -Proficient in Microsoft programs, particularly Excel -Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment QUALIFICATIONS-PREFERRED: -Graduate student in education, public policy, or other related field -Experience with regression and other statistical methods -Experience working in or with a school district or other K-12 public educational setting TERMS:The intern will work an average of 15 hour per week for 7-months from November 2018 to May 2019, at a rate of $20.00 per hour.
