Boston University invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor position in the School of Hospitality Administration (SHA).

One Assistant Professor specializing in the design of experiences in hospitality and other service industries, from a human psychology perspective. Central to the hospitality industry is the provision of memorable, high-quality experiences, across digital and physical touchpoints. These experiences are designed not only for customers, but also for employees of the organization. We are seeking candidates who can teach courses in and conduct research in the emerging domain of experience management—the process of monitoring every interaction that people (customers, employees, and other key stakeholders) experience with the organization to spot opportunities for improvement. This unique domain combines the disciplines of experience design and experience improvement and emphasizes data-intensive approaches. In addition to the study of human behavior at the individual level, experience management also emphasizes understanding how organizations develop an experience management culture and strategy.

We seek candidates with an educational background in a field that specializes in the scientific study of human and/or organizational behavior (e.g., Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Psychology/Social Psychology, Consumer Behavior, Marketing, Management, Management Science, Strategy, etc.). Experience and/or demonstrated interest in the hospitality industry is highly desirable. This unique position integrates internal and external perspectives of the organizations to more extensively address how organizations create positive, holistic experiences for both their own employees as well as guests, customers, and/or other external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a willingness to develop innovative courses in experience management, and across various sectors of the hospitality industry (e.g., event design and experience management) and must also demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with colleagues at SHA to conduct research on key factors of the experience that are both internal and external to hospitality organizations.
