  • Responsibilities

    Assist the Manager of Outdoor Programs in managing all outdoor operations and programming offered through the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. This includes all operations and instructional and recreational programming that take place at outdoor adventure site locations off campus, as well as at the Barreca Climbing Wall and Waterfront Pavilion. Ensure that the climbing wall and outdoor adventure program operations are in compliance with Massachusetts Department of Public Safety regulations and all other governing laws. Assist the Manager of Outdoor Programs to create, develop and enforce rules and regulations and hire, train and supervise instructional and operational climbing staff, outdoor adventure staff and outdoor gear rental staff. Assist in managing programming, revenue generation, marketing and budget development and administration for both instructional and operational areas. Teach train the trainer and advanced Physical Education, Recreation and Dance credit and non-credit rock climbing and outdoor adventure courses. Supervise one Outdoor Program Graduate Assistant. Perform other collateral duties as assigned by management and senior leadership. This position routinely requires early morning, late evening, weekend, and on call work.

    Required Skills

    Knowledge and experience of various outdoor activities including waterfront and indoor rock climbing; leadership experience; experience in teaching/facilitating groups of varying ages/abilities/demographics; risk management; strong judgment and safety awareness; drivers license and willingness to obtain certification to drive a 12 passenger van.

     

    Required Education: Bachelors Degree

     

    Preferred Education: Masters Degree

     

    Candidate will be required to possess:

    • CPR
    • Wilderness First Aid or higher level of certification
    • Other outdoor, sailing, or lifeguard certifications are preferred
