    The $3 billion Boston University Endowment Portfolio is diversified across a variety of asset classes and investment strategies.  The Boston University Investment Office, formed in 2007, along with the Investment Committee of the University’s Board of Trustees, is charged with managing the University’s pooled long-term endowment assets for the current and future support of operations and with preserving the long-term purchasing power of the Endowment.  It currently supports approximately 3% of the University’s operating budget.     The University seeks to add a thoughtful and bright Investment Associate to join its collegial, nine-person Investment Office.  Team members must live in the Boston area but post an initial training period, have the option to work remotely 2 days a week. The Investment Associate will play an integral role on the team and will be involved in portfolio analyses, investment manager due diligence, and manager monitoring efforts. The position offers an opportunity to have broad exposure to all asset classes and develop investment expertise in an intellectually demanding and collaborative environment.  The position will report to the Chief Investment Officer and will work closely with all investment team members.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Investment Associate’s primary responsibilities will include: (a) assisting in rigorous manager due diligence of prospective fund investments and ongoing monitoring of existing investments, (b) writing for and presenting to the investment team and the University’s Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees on issues including endowment performance, prospective investment strategies, portfolio structure and manager recommendations, and (c) actively participating in asset allocation and investment manager discussions on a weekly basis.

    The Investment Associate will keep current on market trends and evaluate the impact of market changes on the portfolio and on individual managers as well as contribute to investment policy and portfolio structure decisions.  The Investment Associate will contribute to the Investment Office’s collegial culture, assisting in training of the Investment Analysts and completing special projects, as needed.

    • Strong analytical, writing, and presentation skills, as well as the ability to concisely communicate
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with investment managers and investment committees
    • Preference for 3+ years of investment-related work experience
    • Preference for endowment, investment management, investment banking, or consulting experience, but not required
    • MBA from a top business school and strong academic record; preference for Finance, Economics or quantitative field and/or its equivalent, but not required
