    Sponsored Programs, a fully remote group, is part of the Office of Research, which is dedicated to aiding the research community in navigating the lifecycle of their work, from finding funding to creating proposals, and managing awards to helping inventions find their way to the public.

    The Assistant Vice President for Post Award is responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of the post award functions including Service Center Administration. Primary areas of oversight include financial reporting, invoicing and financial compliance management for all externally sponsored grants and contracts. Further, this position is responsible for close coordination with the BU academic and research community as well as with other central administration functions at the University (controller, budget, student, postdoc office, compliance, facilities, space, and systems). This position will strategically and operationally collaborate with other Sponsored Programs units (pre-award, shared services, compliance, subcontracting, and research intelligence) to ensure coordinated customer support of our faculty and administrators. A successful candidate will play a critical role in the identification, development of policies and procedures related to BU’s sponsored research portfolio and in providing training to the research community. This position is responsible for overseeing critical systems development and maintenance efforts and other emergent special projects as assigned. Reports to the Associate Vice President of Sponsored Programs.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage and oversee career development, performance, and training activities for a staff of up to 15 professional employees. The direct reports of this position include the Associate Directors of Post Award and the Director of Service Center Administration. Participate in training and development of school administrators.
    • Oversee the monitoring, accounting, and reporting of financial information for the university’s sponsored research portfolio. Responsible for sponsored research expenditure and F & A projections for budget purposes. Collaborates with the Controller’s office on the development and modeling of the F & A rates.
    • Oversee the Service Center Administration function. Collect data, monitor rates university-wide, and retain documentation for service center and specialized service facilities. Ensure that Service Center Directors have tools and information to support best practice management. Develop and implement enhanced billing and revenue tracking processes and systems.
    • Help to build the capacity of departmental and school-based staff across the University through training, knowledge transfer, and engagement in improved ways of supporting researchers. Serve as a key Post Award decision-maker and oversee critical systems development efforts and other emergent special projects. As a member of the Sr. Leadership Team, builds and sustains positive working relationships with peers, colleagues, and members of the management team.

    Required Skills

    • Bachelor's Degree required.
    • 8+ years of related experience, preferably in higher education.
    • Comprehension of Pre-award and post-award functions.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Masters preferred.
    • CFRA or CRA preferred.
    • Customer service oriented.
    • Strong people management and interpersonal skills.
    • Analytical thinker.
    • Ability to drive change and influence.
