  • Responsibilities

    The Research Group for the study of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in Central America is looking for a research assistant. The research group has several NIH-funded studies of environmental causes of Chronic Kidney Disease of uncertain etiology. Primary responsibilities will include interpretation during meetings, maintaining laboratory samples and inventories, updating the website and IRB protocol, scheduling team meetings of investigators located in El Salvador, Nicaragua and BU, assisting with project timelines, preparation of data, reports and manuscripts.     We seek a highly motivated and detail-oriented research assistant who is fluent in Spanish to assist with study operations in both Central America and at Boston University. Six Essential functions, in order of importance and percent of time.

     

    • Assist faculty and students with research activities including data requests, questionnaire development, presentations and manuscript preparation.
    • Maintain communication with teams in El Salvador and Nicaragua via email, Slack and WhatsApp, schedule meetings, send reminders and interpret during meetings.
    • Maintain electronic data inventory and laboratory sample biorepository, purchase and ship supplies as necessary.
    • Research administrative including IRB reporting, drafting subawards and contracts, processing invoices and purchase orders.
    • Update website and draft text for external communications.
    • Translation of emails and documents as needed.

    Required Skills

    • Fluent in spoken and written Spanish
    • Ability to be self-directed, prioritize essential tasks and balance numerous responsibilities
    • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
    • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
    • Proficient with standard Microsoft programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    • A strong interest in public health or international program management

     

    Applicant preferences:

    • Experience with SharePoint, REDCap, and R/SAS

    • Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of experience required.
