    Now, our Now, our QUESTROM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS-BASED development team is looking for a MAJOR GIFT OFFICER will build and manage a portfolio of Major Gifts ($100,000+) prospects.

     

     

    DEVELOPMENT & ALUMNI RELATIONS AT QUESTROM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, BOSTON UNIVERSITY

    The Boston University Questrom School of Business Development & Alumni Relations (DAR) Office is committed to keeping our alumni, parents and friends informed and engaged with the School, each other, the University, and current students. The Questrom School of Business DAR team works to secure financial resources for the people, places, and programs at Questrom.

     

     

    MAJOR GIFT OFFICER, QUESTROM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

    Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean, Development and Alumni Relations, the Major Gift Officer (MGO) for Questrom School of Business will plan and advance a range of fundraising activities, programs and priorities with particular emphasis on identifying and cultivating prospects, developing and executing solicitation strategies, and collaborating with volunteers, faculty and administrators to solicit major gifts.  The MGO will also oversee various special projects as assigned by the Assistant Dean. 

     

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Identify, cultivate, and direct solicit prospective donors locally and nationally for major gifts to Questrom School of Business of $100,000 and greater as well as leadership annual gifts of $1,000 and greater, with an emphasis on multi-year commitments. Conduct ten-plus face-to-face visits per month and develop a portfolio of 125-150 managed prospects.
    • Collaborate with members of the Questrom development team and central major gifts team to identify and recruit alumni and parents to support the vast array of opportunities- philanthropic and professional- presented within Questrom’s strategic plan.
    • Support both the Dean of Questrom and Questrom’s Assistant Dean for Development & Alumni Relations in their frontline development efforts by arranging key visits and staffing those prospect meetings where appropriate.
    • Perform independent research to identify new prospects capable of making commitments
    • of $100,000+.
    • Integrate University and Questrom Alumni Relations activities as an essential component of the overall development strategy.

     

    Required Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a development office or academic fundraising environment preferred, including developing a portfolio of prospects and soliciting gifts. Reunion fundraising and working with volunteers preferred.
    • Excellent written and oral business communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build relationships in a highly collaborative environment. Must be able to “manage up” working directly with University leaders; engage laterally by building relationships of trust and mutual value added with colleagues across campus; and manage “down” ensuring the support and cooperation of staff both within and outside of Development. 
    • Ability to work well on a team; flexibility to take on challenges in mid-stream; ability to delegate when appropriate.
    • Capacity to think strategically and creatively is necessary. This involves the ability to inquire about and listen to a prospect's needs, and then to understand and determine how to best develop a successful strategy for engagement.
