    The Questrom School of Business at Boston University anticipates an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with an emphasis on Financial Technology (FinTech).  We are expanding a world-class math finance program to bridge information systems and offer degree certificates in FinTech. Pending Provost budgetary approval, the anticipated start date for this faculty position is July 1, 2020.

     

    We seek outstanding candidates who would be comfortable in, stimulated by, and engage with the vibrant cross-disciplinary community of FinTech. The ideal candidate will have a strong STEM background yet also be comfortable in a business setting. This person would be comfortable writing code but also show an ability to publish in an academic setting.  Skills would include credit and risk analysis, financial markets, data analytics, machine learning (artificial intelligence) and cryptography. Experience with startups would be valuable as would application of FinTech techniques to existing companies that need to evolve and compete.  The candidate should be able to work with students in mentoring around a FinTech sandbox, design projects, and attract grant money to FinTech areas.  Increasingly schools are setting up standalone FinTech institutes thus experience or interest along any of these dimensions would also be valuable.

     

    Prospective candidates must demonstrate potential for produce original and innovative scholarly work of the highest possible quality with impact in the top academic journals.  Faculty will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in a cross-disciplinary curriculum.  Development activities; ties to industry and access to datasets or experiments will be a plus. The Questrom School of Business offers generous research and teaching support.

     

    The primary appointment would reside in the Information Systems department with strong ties to our world class Math Finance department.  A new certificate in FinTech was recently approved by the faculty

     

    The Questrom School of Business is expanding an already strong group of faculty. Key hires in recent years represent a strategic focus for the school.  Data science represents a strategic focus for Boston University extending to the presidential level. The strengths of the Questrom School in analytics along with its ties to other key institutions focused on data science research at Boston University, such as the Hariri Institute for Computing, present a unique and exciting opportunity to develop a cross-disciplinary research agenda at the intersection of machine learning and finance.

    •  Research excellence as evidenced by papers published in premier academic journals
    •  Teaching excellence in FinTech  or business analytics at either the undergraduate or graduate levels

    DESIRABLE SKILLS

    • Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies, Peer-to-peer Lending, Robo advising, Algorithmic Trading, Regulation of Technology;
    • Relevant industry experiences or collaborations; 
    • Access to unique FinTech  datasets or experimental platforms
