  • Responsibilities

    Laboratory Supervisor for the Department of Chemistry instructional laboratories. This 11-month position (August to June) supports advanced (200-level and up) courses in inorganic, physical, analytical, and biochemistry, with an emphasis on biochemistry.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Preparing materials (e.g., chemical solutions, buffers, gels)
    • Setting up and breaking down laboratory spaces for instruction
    • Ordering and maintaining stockroom supplies
    • Ensuring compliance with laboratory, chemical, biological, and radiological safety standards
    • Ensuring equipment and labware are kept in good working order
    • Supervising and directing a staff of student assistants
    • Managing waste in compliance with EH&S standards
    • Coordinating with instructional faculty and course staff to provide a successful and safe instructional experience for undergraduate students

    Position requires the ability to track and plan ahead to meet the instructional objectives of multiple curricula, and collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure that students receive the appropriate supplies and support in a timely and efficient manner.

    Required Skills

    • B.A./B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related life-science field. Master's Degree preferred
    • At least 3 years of relevant experience
    • Familiarity with standard chemical and biochemical laboratory processes and procedures (e.g., adjusting pH of solutions, acid-base titration, dimensional analysis, reagent testing)
    • Thorough understanding of laboratory safety and best practices
    • Strong organizational and leadership skills
    • Familiarity with Excel as a tool to maintain inventories and track purchases
