    OUR MISSION

We in Boston University Development & Alumni Relations (DAR) harness the power of philanthropy to make an excellent education accessible and welcoming to all, and to advance BU’s global leadership in research, scholarship, artistic creation, and professional practice.  To support our work, we have built—and are continuing to build—an outstanding team of dynamic, mission-driven advancement professionals who constantly strive to create an environment where everyone belongs.  Where it’s not just about a job, but a career and a community.

Now, our ANNUAL GIVING team is looking for a MANAGER OF STUDENT PHILANTHROPY who will oversee a cultire of giving among the student body led by BU’s flagship giving program, the Senior Class Gift.

    ANNUAL GIVING AT BOSTON UNIVERSITY

Each year, alumni, students, parents, and friends choose to support everything from softballs to software at BU. These gifts are then deployed to fund research, provide emergency student assistance, pay for travel to academic conferences, and lots more throughout the year.

    MANAGER OF STUDENT PHILANTHROPY

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director for Annual Giving, the Manager of Student Philanthropy will be responsible for recruiting student volunteers, planning and executing events, building relationships with student leaders and campus groups, leadership of the Class Gift committee, stewardship of student donors, and for administrative tasks associated with the program. In addition, the Manager will work with the Senior Associate Director and team to develop new giving programs that expand student philanthropy throughout all class years.

    BU CLASS GIFT

The Class Gift program is Boston University’s flagship student philanthropy program. Each year, more than 2,500 members of the graduating class participate in Class Gift, representing each of BU’s 17 schools and colleges. Class Gift donors may choose to support whatever means the most to them at BU, including their school/college, club, sports team, or department. As both incentive and acknowledgement, Class Gift donors enjoy a robust slate of programs and activities throughout the year, including marquees social events at local establishments, networking with alumni, wellness and educational programs, and more. The undergraduate Class Gift program is guided by a committee of dedicated student volunteers led by two co-chairs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Directly oversee the Class Gift Program with the objective of increasing annual participation from graduating seniors and graduate students in their final year. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, volunteer committee management, planning and execution of events, and marketing communications to current students.
    • Coordinate programs, events, and marketing efforts to teach all undergraduate students about the impact of private support at the University, strengthen the culture of philanthropy on campus, and increase giving by current students beyond the senior class.
    • Lead strategies that position BU Annual Giving as a resource for student fundraising. Build relationships with student leaders and groups including, but not limited to, student government, clubs and organizations, club sports, and varsity athletics teams. Identify opportunities for high-ceiling crowdfunding projects and recruit student participants for BU Giving Day.
    • Recruit, train, and supervise the Class Gift co-chairs, a pair of high-achieving student-workers who lead the Class Gift committee.
    • Serve as an important collaborative member of the Annual Giving team, providing support as needed to the Senior Associate Director of Young Alumni Engagement and the Assistant Director of the Student Philanthropy Center.
