WBUR Podcasts serves as the pioneering hub for groundbreaking hits such as Modern Love, Dear Sugars, and the latest sensation, Beyond All Repair. We're also proud of our National Murrow Award-winning podcast, Endless Thread, delving into internet and culture, alongside mission-driven projects tackling issues like criminal justice and gun violence, including Violation and The Gun Machine. As an integral part of a new collaboration between ProPublica and WBUR, in this position you will function as a senior producer and liaison, fostering a close partnership between the two organizations to craft and distribute investigative audio stories.

You will bring ProPublica’s award-winning investigative reporting to a national audience by producing compelling broadcast and podcast pieces for WBUR's On Point, hosted by Meghna Chakrabarti.

Additionally, you will research, develop and lead potential stand-alone investigative series in collaboration between ProPublica and WBUR Podcasts. These initiatives echo recent partnership projects such as Violation, a podcast jointly produced by WBUR & The Marshall Project, and The Gun Machine, a podcast from WBUR & The Trace.

On occasion, you may be asked to work on non-WBUR stories.

This is a project position, funded through December 2024, based in Boston, MA, with regular visits to New York to ensure your role will be well-integrated with the ProPublica team.

    Essential Functions:

    • (50%) Audio Production: The senior producer is responsible for the production of ProPublica’s audio stories for On Point's broadcast and podcast. In addition, this producer will help develop stand-alone ProPublica/WBUR podcast collaborations — bringing ProPublica’s award-winning journalism to life in audio. This role requires story research, field producing, the ability to craft compelling narratives, strong writing and complex audio craft experience. This producer will work closely with hosts, reporters, editors on both the show team and the WBUR Podcast team.
    • (30%) Content Management: The senior producer oversees the planning of the monthly recurring partnership specials scheduled to air/publish on On Point, WBUR Podcasts and ProPublica channels. The role is responsible for story production and execution along with clear communications with key stakeholders in support of the editorial planning.
    • (15%) Project Management: The senior producer will help ensure overall project expectations are met/exceeded, chiefly through close communication with key stakeholders including ProPublica and WBUR leadership, WBUR Podcasts and On Point executive producers, and show teams. This includes setting and managing project deadlines and milestones, developing an accessible editorial calendar, understanding project expectations and presenting audience trends data.
    • (5%) Audience Development: The senior producer will work across the partnership to lend support in all aspects of marketing/promotion, social media and audience development strategies specific to the collaborative’s audience-facing outputs.
