The Research Fellow is a full-time, compensated member of the University community who will participate in and contributes to research programs and scholarly projects for the Stepp Lab for the Sensorimotor Rehabilitation Engineering. The initial appointment period will be for one year with the option to be renewed, contingent on continued availability of funding. Employees will receive full benefits that Boston University offers in accordance with the position and appointment term. Areas of research include voice and speech motor control, acoustic features of voice and speech production, communication outcomes in gender diverse speakers, and functional measurements of voice and speech in health and disease. Successful candidates should hold a B.S. and/or M.S. in speech, language, and hearing sciences, biomedical engineering, neuroscience, computer science, biology, or similar. Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas are strongly preferred: speech acoustics, speech-language pathology, audiology / hearing science, LGBTQIA+ topics, signal processing, statistics, human subjects research, clinical research coordination and/or recruitment, IRB application preparation and management. A lived experience in any of the areas of study is valued. Strong communication skills are essential: candidates must have excellent command of spoken and written English. Previous experience in a lab environment is preferred as is an interest in contributing to scientific dissemination via manuscript and/or presentation preparation.
Essential functions: The candidate will be responsible for data collection and processing for ongoing studies, database management, regulatory approvals and organization, equipment/inventory/budgetary maintenance, quality assurance, recruitment and scheduling, and training/supervision of researchers. Opportunities to contribute to scientific presentations and publications exist for motivated candidates. The candidate will contribute to the design, coordination, and conduct of sponsored research projects. They will participate in data collection, experimental design and the running of experiments. They will also assist in preparation of grant applications, manuscripts, and presentations. The candidate will support data collection, recruit, assess, and characterize human subjects. They will assist in managing study participant recruitment, determination of eligibility, and administering of informed consent. They will safeguard the confidentiality of materials and participant identity.
