    ABOUT THE ROLE Boston University Financial Assistance seeks a Financial Aid Counselor. This is an entry-level position which supports the operations and customer service areas of the office. The position is full-time and requires occasional weekend assignments.

     

    The Financial Aid Counselor works closely with colleagues within Financial Assistance and Combined Enrollment Services, our customer service team.

     

    The Financial Aid Counselor’s primary duties include:

    • Reviewing financial aid applications for undergraduate students;
    • Awarding federal, state, and institutional funds;
    • Providing counseling to prospective and current students and their families about the application process and applying for private loans, and;
    • Assisting with customer service inquiries over the phone and by email to help the Office of Financial Assistance achieve University goals for recruitment, retention, and superior service.

     

    ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION Boston University Financial Assistance is part of the Enrollment & Student Administration unit (ENSA). BU Financial Assistance plays a critical role in ENSA’s mission; enrolling and retaining students, securing external funding and generating tuition revenue through strategic discounting. BU Financial Assistance provides important services through timely and accurate review of financial aid applications, awarding of financial aid funds, processing of loans, and by providing counseling to students and parents on the financial aid process, programs and related issues.

    ABOUT THE CANDIDATE An earned bachelor’s degree is a requirement for this position. Ideally, we are seeking a candidate who:

    • Has at least one year of previous experience in a similar role;
    • Possesses strong analytical skills;
    • Is an effective problem solver and communicator, and;
    • Is able to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
