  • Responsibilities

    The Director of BU Arts & Sciences STEM Outreach provides leadership for the College of Arts & Sciences outreach efforts, supports faculty members who seek to broaden the impact of their research, and advances the Colleges commitment to improving diversity in the natural and computational sciences. In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives, this position will initiate a College-wide effort to highlight (internally and externally) the Colleges outreach efforts, improve coordination and communication, share best practices, and build networks to leverage resources, thus creating more successful collaborations and more substantial impacts. This position also is responsible for managing all operations of the Learning Resource Network (LERNet), which implements multiple programs throughout the year that encourage K-12 students to pursue STEM careers.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Oversee and implement all operations of Learning Resource Network, including identifying funding for all LERNet programs.
    • Managing all websites and communications.
    • Supervising administrative staff to coordinate program logistics.
    • Hiring and training undergraduate students to deliver program content.

     

    This position also serves as Protection of Minors Coordinator for the College of Arts & Sciences. Consult with and advise faculty on Outreach efforts and proposal preparation, including:

    • Supporting the development of broader impact plans for grant applications by actively engaging in regional and national professional networks (e.g., the National Alliance for Broader Impacts, National Center for Women & Information Technology, Computer Science Teachers Association).
    • Supporting the identification of appropriate funding prospects for outreach and STEM projects and developing and editing (including researching, writing, compiling and verifying information, creating budgets) external funding proposals.
    • Offer workshops and networking building opportunities - attend local and national conferences to form collaborations and network with other universities, non-profit institutions, and corporations to cultivate ideas that strengthen and broaden scope of outreach and STEM activities at BU.
    • Manage communications including maintaining a website that catalogues outreach programs and provides resources for faculty who wish to partner on ongoing projects or create new ones.

    Required Skills

    • Minimum of eight years experience in a similar level position.
    • Experience managing events.
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Exceptional attention to detail.
    • Ability to be discrete and maturity to make decisions and act on behalf of the Dean.
    • Collaborative nature with a willingness to work a broad range of stakeholders.
    • Effective multi-tasker, with ability to juggle multiple priorities.
    • Positive, can-do attitude and outlook, with high energy to support a positive office environment.
