    Marsh Chapel and the Office of Religious Life at Boston University seek a candidate to serve as a second part-time associate Muslim chaplain (20 hours per week). The associate Muslim chaplain will assist the Office of Religious Life by providing primary spiritual and philosophical leadership, organization, and advising for their faith community as well as guidance on religious observance and accommodation. The Muslim population at Boston University is large, diverse, and consists of domestic and international students. Along with the current part-time associate Muslim chaplain, they will advise the Islamic Students of Boston University religious life group, primarily working with the sisters group of that organization. Additionally, they will provide outreach and support for Muslim students across all BU programs, working with campus partners including (but not limited to) Dining Services, Admissions, Office of Residential Life, Study Abroad, and Global Programs. The Muslim Chaplain will provide ongoing assessments of Muslim life on campus, including regular program evaluations and annual reports. They will also continue to build a Muslim alumni network related to fundraising and community-building with an intention of financially supporting and potentially expanding the position. The position is temporarily funded by Boston University to meet the immediate need of the campus but will rely on fundraising to support the position in the future. This position will report to the University Chaplain for International Students (The Rev. Dr. Jessica Chicka).

    About Marsh Chapel and the Office of Religious Life: Marsh Chapel and the Office of Religious Life provide spiritual and religious support for students, faculty, and staff on all campuses of Boston University. Religious Life chaplaincies are privately funded and administrated through the Office of Religious Life at Boston University. Marsh Chapel serves the campus community and wider Boston community as a place of worship on Sunday mornings.     Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree required.
    • Relevant experience in organizing and implementing programs.
    • Proficiency with Islamic sacred texts and active involvement in a Muslim community.
    • Strong commitment to and understanding of the needs and concerns of Muslim students, faculty, and staff.
    • Ability to work with and meet the needs of a diverse Muslim population. Ability to work in a multi-faith and ecumenical environment and engage with individuals from a variety of theological/ideological/spiritual perspectives, including our campus and community partners.
    • Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills as well as crisis management skills.
    • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.
    • Creativity in imagining new initiatives and/or new ways of pursuing existing goals
    • Eligibility to work in the United States.
    • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as required, including on-call crisis management.
    • Commitment to self-care and wellbeing.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's Degree preferred - preferably in a closely-related field or the liberal arts.
    • Basic unit in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred or willingness to complete.
    • Experience with grant writing and/or fundraising.
