    Research Integrity is part of the Office of Research, a group dedicated to aiding the research community in navigating the lifecycle of their work, from finding funding to creating proposals to helping inventions find their way to the public.

     

    The Senior Compliance Specialist is responsible for contributing to the success of the Animal Welfare Program by assisting with the development, oversight and monitoring of research compliance processes to promote and facilitate compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, ethical, practice and care standards, BU policies and procedures, and approved protocols.  The Senior Compliance Specialist promotes best practices and solutions, serving as a liaison between various program areas.

     

    The Senior Compliance Specialist is responsible for providing support to BU’s research community and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) in ensuring the humane care and use of animals. The Senior Research Compliance Specialist is responsible for conducting administrative pre-review of material submitted to the IACUC and all IACUC documentation and record keeping, including meeting minutes and agenda, inspection reports, noncompliance reports to regulatory and other oversight or funding agencies, annual program reports to regulatory and other oversight or funding agencies.

     

    The Senior Compliance Specialist will generally perform the following functions: administrative pre-review of IACUC submission; conducting risk assessments; performing routine and post-approval monitoring; assisting with development and implementation of policies, procedures, and practices designed to promote compliant practices and mitigate risk; providing guidance and education to investigators to assure compliance with research regulations and standards; facilitating compliance with decisions and corrective actions; and participating or leading special projects from concept to completion.

    Required Skills

    3-5 years of experience, preferably in an academic, medical or research compliance enterprise. A Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a scientific field. Related academic, animal care, or research compliance experience considered in substitution of degree.  Knowledge of federal rules and regulations related to IACUC regulatory requirements and animal welfare. Working knowledge of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. Demonstrated ability to critically analyze and evaluate information necessary to execute activities of the IACUC office. Proficiency in spreadsheet and database administration. Able to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects. AALAS certification at a LAT (Laboratory Animal Technician) or higher level preferred. Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) preferred.

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms and bend to lift items. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products, catering and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
