  • Responsibilities

    The Managing Editor will play a key role in shaping and directing WBURs local news coverage, overseeing teams of reporters and editors responsible for investigations, arts and culture, education and the environment. Reporting to the Executive Editor, News, the position requires someone who is high energy, motivated and proactive. Someone who has a passion for coaching and inspiring reporters and editors to do the best work of their careers. This role will work very closely with the Executive Editor, News, the Managing Editor, Managing Producer and Executive Editor, Digital, to strategize and execute coverage across all platforms, including on air, print, social media, newsletters, and live events. The person plays an active, behind-the-scenes role within the organization to plan and think critically about news, to recruit and develop top, diverse talent, and to help foster a workplace of collaboration, respect and inclusion. A key aspect is the ability to work with reporters and editors closely at the story level, while simultaneously seeing the big picture of the newsroom. The position requires a highly resourceful, multi-platform editor who strives to lift reporting and storytelling skills on all platforms. Someone with a track record of managing teams and complex projects with many stakeholders.

    Required Skills

    Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred with more than eight years of related work experience.
