RESEARCH STUDY TECHNICIAN,MED Center for Regenerative Medicine
Opportunity: The Serrano Lab is seeking a curious, thoughtful and motivated laboratory technician/manager to join the lab at the Center for Regenerative Medicine (CReM), Boston University. The Serrano Lab is a young yet promising lab that offers career development opportunities and strong mentorship in a thriving scientific community. The Lab: The Serrano Lab studies neurodevelopment and cardiovascular development in rare multi-systemic disorders. In our lab we combine rare disease modeling in zebrafish together with cardiovascular and neurobiology techniques and human iPSC-derived brain organoids and endothelial cells. Responsibilities: The role involves managing day-to-day operations of the lab, perform experiments and report results. The ideal candidate will also help build the lab in a world-leading scientific environment here at the CReM. This position will provide a unique opportunity to build a skill set based on organizational, managerial and hands-on experience in setting up a new lab.
Required Skills
Specific duties will involve: •Cell culture (iPSCs) maintenance, expansion and characterization and routine mycoplasma testing •Maintain zebrafish colonies, genotypification of fish lines and zebrafish embryos handling •Perform standard Molecular Biology techniques such as qPCR, PCR, Western-blot, in situ hybridization and cloning •Perform •Plan, assist and conduct research, including collection and recording of results, information and samples •Ensure the lab establishes and maintains a calibration program for testing equipment that affect quality results •Data analysis, presentation and report preparation Required qualifications: •Bachelors degree in Biology or a related field •Minimum of 1 year of experience in cell culture laboratory and/or 1 year of experience in zebrafish model or 3 years of experience in a molecular biology laboratory •Demonstrated record of accomplishment, assisting, initiating and/or completing a research project (poster presentation, scientific communication, publication) •Knowledge of molecular Biology techniques: PCR, qPCR, HRMA, western blot, in situ hybridization •Collaborative, honest and attention to detail An excellent candidate will exhibit the following: •Experience in high throughput single cell techniques like scRNAseq and snATACseq •Experience in Confocal microscopy, super resolution microscopy or general imaging systems •Experience in statistical and Imaging analysis software like FIJI and Prism •Bioinformatics knowledge, R is preferred •Experience in zebrafish husbandry •Experience in histological techniques Contact: Please forward a cover letter and a current CV/resume to Gabrielle Cockerham at gabbyac@bu.edu More information: https://crem.bu.edu/research-at-crem/ https://www.bumc.bu.edu/vascularbio/faculty-labs/serrano-lab/
