  • Responsibilities

    As a Research Computing Applications team member, engage researchers as partners to co-create and co-learn research activities and relevant advanced computing capabilities to facilitate and transform collaborative and interdisciplinary research.

     

    • Work directly with faculty, staff, and graduate students of the BU Medical Campus on complex projects such as Framingham Heart Study and Alzheimer's Disease Sequencing Project.
    • Provide necessary training and consulting to support efficient utilization of Boston University's High Performance Computing resources.
    • Install, document, and validate existing researcher-facing software packages.
    • Support research data management, including designing, implementing visualizing and maintaining data acquisition, data transformation, and data storage.
    • Provide outreach and training to the university research community.
    • Collaborate with regional and national research computing peers on the fields landscape and best practices.

    Required Skills

    • Master's or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics or a related field, or equivalent work experience
    • 3-5 years of experience
    • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or C/C++
    • Demonstrated experience in working with analyses pipelines for NGS including WES, WGS, and RNA-seq
    • Experience with variant calling, annotation, and genotype-phenotype association analysis systems
    • Familiarity with bioinformatics software, algorithms, and data formats
    • Experience with Unix/Linux environments, including shell scripting Excellent verbal & written communication skills
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, academic environment

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with various software development and verification tools/packages
    • Experience with version control systems
    • Experience with high performance and/or cloud computing
