    ABOUT THE ROLE

    Boston University Financial Assistance seeks an Assistant Director of Student Employment. The Assistant Director of Student Employment is responsible of overseeing the daily operations of the Federal Work-Study Program and the online Student Job Service for Boston University students. This role advises and assists students with job search, job placement and on-the-job concerns while they are employed through Boston University. This position acts as the liaison/Payroll Coordinator for the student and employers. The Assistant Director of Student Employment reports to the Senior Assistant Director of Student Employment.

     

    The Assistant Director of Student Employment works with the employment eligible student population of Boston University. The role assists close to 10,000 students annually in locating part-time, temporary, summer and/or paid internship positions. This role supports staff with administrative inquiries related to student employment and works with external employers to establish off campus work-study sites.

     

    The Assistant Director’s primary duties include:

    • Overseeing the hiring, training, and supervision of approximately 10 student employees daily;
    • Managing the response to Work-Study, JobService, and student payroll related inquiries with the assistance of from Senior Staff;
    • Assisting student staffs on employment related inquiries, including but not limited to: Onboarding, Searching and applying for a job, Required Pre-hire paperwork, and Grievances and;
    • Overseeing the Off -Campus Federal Work Study program by developing and maintaining partnerships with existing sites following Federal and University policies.

    Boston University Financial Assistance is part of the Enrollment & Student Administration unit (ENSA). BU Financial Assistance plays a critical role in ENSA’s mission, enrolling and retaining students, securing external funding, and generating tuition revenue through strategic discounting. BU Financial Assistance provides important services through timely and accurate review of financial aid applications, awarding of financial aid funds, processing of loans, and by providing counseling to students and parents on the financial aid process, programs, and related issues.

    A Bachelor’s degree and at least 3-5 years of experience are required for this position. We are seeking a candidate who:

    • Has supervisory experience;
    • Can handle a high traffic customer service environment;
    • Has strong written and oral communication skills;

    • Is comfortable speaking to individuals and groups in both virtual and in-person formats and;
    • Displays the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

     

    Working knowledge of Form 1-9, W-4, M-4 and understanding of the Federal Work Study Program are preferred but not required. Experience using internal software such as UIS, SAP and Business link are a plus.
