    ABOUT THE ROLE

    Boston University Educational Resource Center (ERC) seeks an Assistant Director for Academic Support and Outreach. This role is responsible for the development, marketing, and delivery of academic support programs for undergraduate and graduate students. This position administers and facilitates the ERC’s Graduate Writing Support programs, which support BU master’s, professional, and doctoral students in making consistent progress toward their long-term writing goals. This role supervises student support specialists, graduate students, and undergraduate students. The Assistant Director for Academic Support and Outreach reports to the Associate Director of the Educational Resource Center.

     

    The Assistant Director work closely with ERC leadership, faculty, and other key university stakeholders to determine and meet the needs of specific student populations, including first-generation students, graduate students, and international students. This includes, the Assistant Provost for Graduate Education, Associate Provost for Graduate Education, and departmental Directors of Graduate Study.

     

    The Assistant Director of Academic Support and Outreach’s primary duties include:

    • Assisting students in the development of academic skills through one-on-one Academic Skills Advising appointments;
    • Designing and delivering academic skill-building workshops;
    • and informing ERC programs and services to students, faculty, and staff via in-person events as well as print and digital platforms and;
    • Teaching an academic recovery course that empowers students in academic difficulty with strategies for success at BU and beyond.

     

     

    ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

    Boston University’s Educational Resource Center (ERC) is part of the Enrollment & Student Administration unit (ENSA). BU’s ERC plays a critical role in ENSA’s mission, providing academic support programming for undergraduate and graduate students. The ERC provides peer tutoring in close to 100 undergraduate courses, writing support, academic skills advising and workshops that cover a wide variety of academic themes.

    A Master’s degree and at least 3-5 years of experience are required for this position. We are seeking a candidate who:

    • Can work effectively with a wide range of diverse faculty, staff, and students;
    • Acquires Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills;
    • Can demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills;
    • Possesses outstanding written and oral communication skills;
    • Is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Is familiar with large, urban, private research institutions;
    • Has an experience in doctoral degree programs and;
    • Is familiar with current research in the area of academic support.

     

    Occasional evening work (3-4 times/semester) and participation in Commencement are required. Doctoral degree is preferred, but not required.

     

    The department will provide workshop training systems such as TutorTrac and, Handshake.
