  • Responsibilities

    The Operations Manager reports to the Department Chairman and is responsible for directing the major financial and administrative operations of the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. This includes, but is not limited to:

    • Ensuring compliance with federal and non-federal grant requirements such as the preparation and submission of grants
    • Administering both pre-award and post-award activities such as budget preparation and reconciliation, annual progress reports, PARS, etc.
    • Supervising and allocating work to the administrative staff
    • Monitoring and tracking sick and vacation time for staff and faculty
    • Processing and approving weekly paid employee payroll
    • Acting as mediator in the solution of personnel issues within the organization

    Required Skills

    • Must have a Bachelor's degree and more than 8 years of relevant experience.
    • Must have previous supervisory experience as well as experience working in an academic department.
    • Must have experience with planning and monitoring departmental budgets and discretionary accounts.
    • Must have extensive experience with entire grant management process for grants and contracts awarded to the department through NIH and/or industry awards, both pre and post award, this includes the preparation of documents and submittals for grant applications i.e. RO1
    • Must possess strong written and verbal communications skills; must be comfortable working with technology such as BU systems, Microsoft Office applications, etc.
    • Must be comfortable being an independent contributor as well as a working in a team oriented environment.
    • Must be organized and demonstrate strong prioritization skills.
    • Must have prior experience in an administrative manager role.
