Boston, MA

  • Responsibilities

The Boston University Pulmonary Center, Bosmann Lab is recruiting a Research Assistant Professor for projects on infection-associated immunology and lung inflammation.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and SEPSIS are life-threatening complications of BACTERIAL PNEUMONIA with profound disturbances of the immune system. In the current absence of definitive treatment options, ARDS and sepsis represent an enormous problem for health systems worldwide. Our laboratory is dedicated to obtain better insights into the molecular mechanis of these diseases for identifying novel therapeutic targets.

Special areas of interest are the role of novel genes involved in inflammation, pathogen recognition, host-pathogen interactions, macrophages, neutrophils, cytokines, and related signaling pathways. The projects involve a broad spectrum of immunology methods together with massive parallel sequencing (bulk RNA-Seq, scRNA-Seq), surgical mouse models of infection and CRISPR-Cas9 engineered mouse strains.

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Assistant Professor to promote our experimental and translational research. The position will offer opportunities in designing as well as conducting independent immunology projects. The responsibilities also include laboratory organization (IACUC, IRB, IBC protocols, mouse colony supervision), assistance with scientific writing of manuscripts & grants and mentoring of trainees.

The ideal candidate holds an MD or PhD degree (US or international) and has completed at least 2 years of postdoctoral training in immunology, molecular biology and/or bioinformatics documented by a list of publications. The position is available as full time or part time.
