    THE BOSTON UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Cell & Molecular Neurobiology starting in Fall 2022. We seek a colleague who investigates basic or translational mechanisms of neurological and psychological disorders such as autism, cognitive disability, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease or schizophrenia. We seek a candidate who uses cutting edge technologies to understand mechanisms at the cellular, molecular, neurocircuit and/or brain function levels. Candidates may use animal models or human neurons/brain tissues. This position will synergize with our recent hiring of faculty with expertise in systems-level analyses of the nervous system and neurological disease models. Responsibilities include growing a vibrant research program with extramural funding, teaching at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels, and participating in graduate training. The successful candidate will join a strong and growing interdisciplinary Neuroscience research community at Boston University that also benefits from close affiliations with engineering initiatives including Photonics and synthetic and systems biology.     Broad experience and good theoretical knowledge of engineering principles

    Software Experience:

    -Should understand capabilities of microprocessor-based systems

    Business Experience:

    Industry Experience:

    1. Knowledge and practical understanding of brake or similar equipment and principles
    2. Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical systems
    3. Knowledge and practical understanding of pneumatic/hydraulic principals and equipment

    Process Orientation:

    -Must understand and practice good organization and configuration management skills

    Computer Literacy;

    1. Proficient with spreadsheets (Excel)
    2. Word processing programs (Word)
    3. Data Acquisition and Control (LabVIEW)
    4. Utilize internal KBC SW tools for system interface

    Leadership and Teamwork:

    1. Must be able to clearly define requirements and expectations to others (Test Technicians, Interns, etc.)
    2. Must be able to work well in a team environment both internally and with customers.
    3. Must be an effective negotiator (Internal departments, Internal Customers, End Users of produced Equipment)
    4. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
    5. Must have a strong desire to succeed with high expectations, both of themselves and others

    Professional Writing:

    -Must be able to write clear and precise documents

    Time Management:

    1. Must be able to read a large volume of material (usually test procedures) and ascertain the salient points
    2. Manage multiple and conflicting priorities.

    Communication Skills:

    -Must have effective communications and presentations skills

    Motivation:

    -Must be energetic, hardworking and willing to put in an extra effort when required.

    Flexibility:

    -Must be able to travel on short notice and sometimes for several days at a time (normally travel should be 35% or less).
