  • Responsibilities

    Working as part of a team of core Institute administrative staff under the Director of Finance and Administration, and in close collaboration with the Hariri Institute's Director, this position will play a key role in elevating the Institute to national visibility. This person will develop and manage the Institute's marketing and communications strategies to ensure that the Institute's digital presence reflects its core mission and values. They will work to maximize the Institute's digital footprint through storytelling, email newsletter curation, management of all social media platforms, event and program marketing, media relations, and website optimization. This person will manage a team of interns to support communications and marketing tasks and will serve as the point of contact for the dissemination of Institute news. This person will be a strong science writer and editor and will be responsible for sourcing stories from the Institute's research community and telling those stories in creative and compelling ways that raise the profile of the Institute internally and externally. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (30%) - WRITING AND EDITING: This person is responsible for sourcing stories from Hariri's research community and telling those stories in creative and compelling ways. Will compose, edit, and optimize distribution of research stories, marketing collateral, and digital content that supports the Institute's strategy and goals. Will work with internal and external stakeholders to incorporate the Institute's voice in all relevant, written materials. (25%) - STAFF MANAGEMENT: This person will recruit, hire, train, and ultimately be responsible for the work of a team of 3-4 interns and a Marketing Communications Specialist to support the Institute's marketing and communications strategies. (25%) - EVENT AND PROGRAM MARKETING: This person will promote events ranging from meetings to symposia, colloquia, distinguished lectures, to multi-day conferences, with the goal of reaching a wide audience. This person will also promote programs and fellowships, with the goal of increasing awareness internally and thus, the number of applications. (10%) - COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY: Applying knowledge of Institute research, strategic priorities, and branding policies, this person will develop a high-level communications strategy and action plan to support the Institute's goals and implement that plan along with metrics to track progress. Will serve as main point of contact for BU Marketing & Communications and liaise with that office, as well as external media organizations and industry partners as appropriate, to elevate visibility of news items. (5%) - DIGITAL MANAGEMENT: Collect, update, and maintain contact lists of internal and external stakeholders. Update and maintain the Hariri Institutes webpages and manage the creation and cross-promotion of content from the Institute's Centers and Initiatives. (5%) - Special Projects as assigned

    Required Skills

    • BACHELOR'S DEGREE REQUIRED IN DIGITAL MARKETING, COMMUNICATIONS, OR SIMILAR FIELD
    • 5-8 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
    • MASTER'S DEGREE PREFERRED

    Successful candidates will have knowledge of or a strong desire to learn WordPress; demonstrated knowledge of digital marketing best practices; demonstrated proficiency with graphic design and related applications (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud), track record of strategic thinking, creative content production, experience with science or technical writing, and experience managing and mentoring a professional member and a set of student interns. Written and/ or design collateral samples may be requested from finalists.
