    Health Benefits is seeking an Underwriting Executive. The key purpose of this position is to provide underwriting support for a defined group of new business prospects and renewal self-funded clients. This position focuses on pricing strategy to win new business and retain clients. Works collaboratively with stop loss carriers to maximize account retention and new business sales by obtaining the best possible rates for the client or prospect. Internally this position works closely with client management, sales, healthcare management, managed care, proposal team, and claims. Externally this position interacts with brokers and stop loss carriers. This position audits the work of underwriters and senior underwriters.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Develops, builds, and maintains strong relationships with stop loss carriers to negotiate the best possible terms for new business prospects and clients to maximize new business sales and client retention.
    • Coordinates response to new business requests for proposals which includes reviewing all prospect data, creating target pricing, submitting RFPs to the appropriate stop loss markets, and negotiating with the stop loss carriers, and spreadsheeting the results, making recommendations to sales, and carrier policy review and execution after sale.
    • Manages the underwriting work for the higher complexity clients/prospects.
    • Works with managed care, sales, client management, RFP team, and others as needed to ensure appropriate pricing and products are offered.
    • Spreadsheets stoploss competition and makes appropriate selections and recommendations. Partners with client managers and sales to understand client issues and expectations for stop loss.
    • Maintains quote spreadsheets, stop loss data, and historical client information in designated folder.
    • Other duties as needed/assigned.

    Qualifications include:

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
    • 3-5 years of health insurance underwriting experience/stoploss/RFP experience
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and literate in the remaining Microsoft suit of products.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal0: including the ability to communicate and interact with organizational leaders, clients and customers on a daily basis
    • Proven ability to organize and prioritize a multitude of demands made by clients, brokers and internal staff
    • Proven track record of having the ability to work effectively within a team, sharing responsibilities and helping in other areas of the department when needed or requested
    • Ability to make decisions, ask questions and challenge processes when appropriate

    The compensation range for this Underwriting Executive role is $47,267 to $88,754. The salary offered will vary depending on your job-related skills, education, knowledge, and experience. This role aligns with an annual incentive bonus plan.
