    The PROGRAM OFFICER will provide technical expertise to improve elements of immunization service delivery in Uganda.  S/he will manage specific activities in Uganda and support the Senior Program officer with strengthening PATH Uganda’s vaccine and immunization capabilities to help the country achieve greater positive impact on immunization coverage through performance monitoring, integration of innovative approaches to improve accessibility and uptake of immunization services. The program officer will closely work with MOH/UNEPI and key stakeholders supporting the EPI program.  Please note that the position is dependent on approval of funding from a donor.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Collaborate with national stakeholders including representing PATH on EPI technical committees to strengthen the immunization service delivery and ensure coordination of resources and efforts to support the EPI program.
    • Work closely with the M&E and data manager to analyze performance data and continuously mapping out areas of attention and advocating for the required support.
    • Support national level work planning, trainings, district supportive supervisions and onsite mentorship as appropriate to improve immunization service delivery.
    • Support in the development of CSO/Local partner immunization training curriculum and provide training as necessary.
    • Conduct periodic CSO/local partner performance monitoring and milestones verification on set EPI targets
    • Obtain necessary permissions/approvals to conduct the proposed/future vaccines/immunization related research in Uganda.
    • Actively collaborate closely with the MoH and UNEPI including identification of appropriate study sites, study logistics, and data sharing.
    • Draft and review study protocols, pilot test protocols, and ensure appropriateness of protocols for ease of study implementation and efficiency in gathering required data.
    • Work closely will all the immunization partners for improvement of immunization services.

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

    • The applicant should preferably hold a master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, social sciences or any other health related field.
    • At least five years’ experience working with immunization programs at national and sub national levels.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the Uganda public health context, including MoH structure, policies, and procedures, particularly immunization
    • Excellent knowledge in data cleaning and preparation, data analysis and exploration, statistical knowledge. Additional advantage if knowledgeable in data science tools such as SQL skills, Excel, Tableau for data visualization.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Keen attention to detail.
    • Strong research skills in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
    • Ability to meet deadlines, generate data driven reports and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Possess the ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, work independently, and maintain a high level of accountability.

    8. Reaching above shoulder height: 2-4 hrs at one time & 4-6 hours per day

    10. Reaching/Trunk Rotation above shoulder height: 2-4 hrs at one time & 4-6 hours per day

     

    Complete Initial Health Questionnaire

     

    • Complete OSHA Respiratory Medical Evaluation Questionnaire
    • TB skin test within past year / TB skin test within past 6 months if working with NHP’s
    • Proof of two Measles, Mumps, or Rubella or positive measles titer
    • Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (TDAP) if not vaccinated within past 10 years
    • Functional capacity evaluation - A functional capacity evaluation is set of tests, practices and observations that are combined to determine the ability of the evaluated person to function in a variety of circumstances, most often employment, in an objective manner.
    • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
