  • Responsibilities

    The position is available in Dr. Christopher Heaphy’s research laboratory in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Boston Medical Center. The ideal candidate for this position has a strong interest in the field of cancer biology, particularly prostate cancer, and should be highly motivated, organized, and detail oriented. The ideal candidate must be able to conduct experiments independently, while working successfully as part of a team in a dynamic translational research laboratory. The candidate will initiate and participate in the design, execution, and evaluation of innovative experimental protocols. The candidate must be able to interpret experimental results, prepare and write manuscripts in collaboration with the Principal Investigator, and present research findings at local and national meetings.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:

    • Plan, execute, and analyze experiments (70%)
    • Prepare and write manuscripts and grant applications (20%)
    • Interact and collaborate with other lab members and collaborators (5%)
    • Attend and present findings at internal, local, and national meetings (5%)

     

    THE POST DOC WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR APPLYING FOR NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH (NIH) GRANTS, NIH REQUIRES SUCH INDIVIDUALS TO BE EITHER A US CITIZEN OR A PERMANENT RESIDENT. 

    Required Skills

    • Ph.D. and/or MD. Knowledge of cell culture, tissue-based staining (e.g. immunohistochemistry, fluorescence in situ hybridization)
    • A variety of other molecular biology methods is essential
    • Knowledge of other techniques is preferred, but not required, includes: gene-editing technologies, lentiviral transduction, and microscopy
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with collaborators (e.g. research scientists, clinicians, and administrators) is essential
