  • Responsibilities

    Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Project Manager, the Research Assistant (RA) will provide support to intervention and evaluation activities for a large multi-site community-based randomized controlled trial. This NIH-funded study will test a youth empowerment intervention targeting sugary drink intake and childhood obesity risk across ten Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the Commonwealth. The RA will be responsible for scheduling, tracking, and data collection from study participants, participant recruitment and follow-up assessments, assist with data management and intervention setup activities, and assist with miscellaneous administrative tasks related to daily study operations. As needed, the RA will also assist with preparation of grant proposals including help with literature reviews, synthesis of data, and formatting references in requested formats.

    Required Skills

    • Required Bachelor's Degree
    • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented, have strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and record-keeping skills
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities at the same time effectively
    • Ability to work in a multi-cultural, diverse, decentralized environment, as a member of an interdisciplinary research team
    • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial, and ethnic populations
    • Ability to interpret and make informed judgments regarding participant recruitment and data collection activities
    • Experience working in community settings, with children and families, and/or with participant recruitment and data collection preferred
    • Strong knowledge of or willingness to learn software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, REDCap, and related programs
    • Knowledge or willingness to learn software and applications for maintaining reference databases (e.g., Mendeley, EndNote, RefWorks, etc)
    • Flexible to work evenings when required; able to drive
