This role has the primary responsibility for the efficient operation of packaging machinery by performing the

    following duties.

     

    This position is full time BENEFIT ELIGIBLE.     HOURS: A general work week will be Monday to Friday from 11:00pm to 7:00am; additional hours may be required due to business demands.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.4

    • Operation of computerized weigh heads, Hayssen and TNA packaging machines and Blueprint automatic case packers. Must be flexible to learn and work on all packaging machine equipment.
    • Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machine work piece to specifications. This includes ensuring that the correct packaging film is selected for the product being packed and that the proper package weight, price, and code date are set correctly to obtain overall package integrity.
    • Prepares packaging machine for production start-up and adjusts machine when packaging different products to achieve maximum efficiency. Changes rolls of packaging film and ink tape as necessary.           
    • Efficiently performs daily routine setups and changeovers to all needed machines without supervision.
    • Perform mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical repairs to all machines in the packing room. Calls maintenance with repairs accordingly.
    • Must follow all rules set by the Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) and attend all related meetings and/or training sessions. Must complete post op checklists that are associated with written allergen programs and HACCP. Must be committed to and operate by Manufacturing Execution System (MES) standards and procedures.
    • Must wear the proper personal protective equipment for performing each duty. Must report unsafe equipment to supervisor on duty. Follow all safety guidelines as described in the HFI safety code of conduct and must attend all safety meetings.
    • Constantly keep machines operating at maximum performance, to meet quality standards, including but not limited to; package integrity, accurate weights, and code dates. Actively operates and adjusts all machines in the packing area to maximum efficiency and maintains high efficiencies. Must meet production quality and quantity goals.
    • Cleaning and sanitizing plant and plant equipment including seasoning trays, machines, walls, floors, ovens, etc. Keeps work area clean and organized at all times.
    • May be requested to temporarily cover work assignments in other areas of production, including Chips, Allied, and Plant 2 according to business demands.

     

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior or recent experience in running automatic packaging equipment preferred. A good mechanical skill related background preferred.
    • Must have a valid driver's license in the current state of residence.
    • Must have a current tow motor license or be able to obtain one within 90-days of hire.
    • Must pass a job-related assessment with a score of 70% or better.
    • Must pass a pre-placement screen test demonstrating the ability to perform the physical requirements of the machine operator position.
    • Must possess a stable work history with good references.

    The employee must be able to work in hot/humid conditions with slippery floor conditions and airborne seasonings. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
