    1. Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel
    2. Uses equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing appropriate care
    3. Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice
    4. Assists in inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the preoperative area
    5. Maintains order and cleanliness of preoperative area
    6. Performs thorough preoperative patient assessment required in the outpatient setting
    7. Assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient prior to admission
    8. Provides preoperative instruction and explanation of patient rights and responsibilities
    9. Describes the perioperative experience to the patient/significant other, including what to expect before, during, and after the procedure, and how the significant other will participate
    10. Obtains pertinent patient records prior to patient’s arrival for preoperative testing
    11. Performs all preoperative testing (i.e., laboratory work, electrocardiogram, x-rays, etc.)
    12. Reports all abnormal values to anesthesiologist/attending surgeon
    13. Explains informed consent for surgery, patients’ rights/responsibilities, and preoperative/postoperative instructions
    14. Obtains necessary signatures
    15. Informs patient about routine care and procedures related to the perioperative experience
    16. Discusses all findings with anesthesiologist prior to anesthesiologist’s preoperative evaluation of patient
    17. Provides comfort and reassurance to the patient and supports the patient’s right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
    18. Documents preoperative care according to policy/procedure
    19. Ensures that the patient’s chart is complete on day before surgery is scheduled
    20. Performs other tasks and duties as assigned in an efficient, effective and cost conscious manner, complying with all USPI’s policies, procedures, regulations.

    Required Skills

    • Required
    1. High school graduate or GED certificate recipient
    2. Graduate of accredited school of nursing
    3. RN with active license in appropriate state
    4. BLS, ACLS, PALS certified
    5. Leadership qualities
    6. Strong ethical and moral character references
    7. Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English

     

    • Preferred
    1. Hospital/ASC experience
    2. Computer literacy
